Senior seeking employment.
For most of my career, I was a transportation specialist. The road took away from me more than it ever gave back in terms of my health. I never slept right ate right or got enough exercise. I developed type two diabetes and suffer from arthritis, however over the past several years I have made considerable strides and am considering entering the job market but so far have been unsuccessful. I am a self-starter, relatively intelligent, honest and dependable.
Perhaps,going part time. What type of work? Factory. Office. Store? I think there is a definite "fit-in" aspect as well. Can you lift bend twist? Do you drive. ?
From my own experience it's been the ability to be physically fit enough to do the work load and be flexible. I am liked by the other workers and well thought of by the management as well as liked so my people skills are not in question in my desire to do the job is not a question. I've learned it's the the application in comparison to the actual manager. What I mean is the application is more like a research And the manager is Grassroots telling you exactly what she needs with no research involved.
Carl, you may want to reconnect with previous fellow co-workers or even employers. This job market is unlike any that I have ever encountered or remember, there seems to a barrier to those with age, experience, and education. Even after 9/11, I was able to gain employment through a previous employer, but even they are out of business. In the end, the only thing that is ours is our health. Don't smoke, watch your drinking, get enough sleep, eat your veggies, watch your weight, get enough exercise because I don't think we ever thought it would get this bad or that we would live this long. I am so impressed that you want to work and do something besides sit home! Yea for you! It sounds like your life is going in a positive way, so you are blessed. We are blessed to be a blessing. I am getting ready to go back into the marketplace too. SS is going to have to wait! I am going out seeking whom I can be a blessing to. Life is good!
I know what you mean I'm disable for 17 years now I'm trying to go back the only way I can do it is to ask for God's help
I am 65 and for the past 15 years I have been cleaning the lobby at my neighborhood McDonald's. Would like something not quite so strenuous. Have had Cerebral palsy since birth. Don't drive. Probably nothing much out there Took buses for 20 years when I worked for bank in the 80's Any ideas. Thank
I’m in my early 50’s I been out of work for a year & 3 mos. due to an injury at my previous job I left NJ came to VA in 3 mos I’ve only had 2 interviews I’m very qualified for the jobs I’ve interviewed for but heard nothing, my husband tried to convince me otherwise but I feel is because of my age

First time I ever heard a truck driver called a "transportation specialist". If no one will give u a job driving a truck, can u call up old contacts and see if they need someone short-term, and then if they do, lease/rent a truck for the weekend, and if the haul/profit pays the rent/lease, ur in business!
