Older workers
I am having a really hard time finding a job because I am an older person and because I have been out of the work place for a number of years. I have excellent previous work experience, great work ethics and I really want to work. I have sent out numerous resumes but it seems like no company is willing to take a chance. The only responses i get are from insurance companies. I also have excellent references. Does anyone have any suggestions i know once they saw and interviewed me it would be a different story i am not an old fossil!!

You must remember once you have been off work for along period of time you just can't jump in to work within a couple of weeks sometimes it may take 5 to 6 weeks to find employed you can't get frustrated about that the main thing is about the right person getting ahold of your resume look how many other people that are in the your shoes going through the samething you are upset because its not happening when you want it to be and things aren't going to happen when we want it to be you must be patience and keep sending out your resume beacause someone is going to notice you but in the mean time you have to be patience. i do wish you the best

I went threw a temp agency and the talked me into a professon I love welding I have a welding cert. I took a welding test passed , scared to death and I've been there less.than a month and I absolutely love.it. so seek out a temp agency don't be afraid to tell them no if u don't like it. But I had bills out the butt.i took the high paying job and loving every sec of.it. it's lomg.hours but lots of money. So hang in there and don't give up. By the eway in 43 . So it ls never too late. Good luck . Keep ur head up

I find that office jobs in general, like to hire the older groupset. Pick up some on line certification if you can, like medical transcription, billing and coding specialist, give yourself some new skills. Then of course NEVER talk about your age to them. Its illegal, and keep the interview to your skills. On my resume I write seasoned instead of 20 years etc for experienced.

go do substitute teaching ..good bay...own hours...and looks great on resume

I am having the same issue, where employers wouldn't even give me a chance. I worked in IT for over 33 years, for the same company. If I was not a good employee, the company wouldn't have kept me for so long. Same as you, I was trustworthy, had great work ethics, took little, or no sick days, would work overtime in a moments notice (did not get paid overtime), would work through lunch often, and was always in 15 minutes early before my starting time. I don't talk on my cell phone during work. BUT I am older, which obviously is a job curse, and scares away employers.

I would try the insurance thing. Once you do it, even if you don't like it, you will feel more accomplished for trying something new, and it will restore your inner work ego.

What type of job are you loking for. These days you have to maybe do do more than one resume. One for the type of job you are looking for, and one for what you did or are good at. Cj

You need to rewrite your resume for the tracking systems, and don’t put anything on there which is older than ten years.
Be as specific as you can. It’s not like before when you could just write a resume with inflated titles and descriptions, and a human being would see it first. They’re literally doing keyword searches.
It’s not your age, it’s your technology.

Pam I can relate. I’m 61 years old and in good health. I am a pharmacist of 31 years, registered in 3 states, experienced in Pharmacy Academia, Hospital and retail. Since the buyout of my previous position as Pharmacy Manager this past June I have applied to more than 60 positions and still no offer where I live. My younger colleagues are in high demand but our customers prefer seasoned healthcare practitioners. Loyalty means nothing but our profession is a trusted one by many. My trust dried up when our store closed up
Yes, l could not add in my resumed, l will next time
