Passed Over Bias?
I’ve been a flight attendant and in the travel industry for 15 years now, and I absolutely love the airline and my co-workers. Unfortunately, this year I was recently passed up for a promotion, and I think it’s because of my age. The promotion responsibilities includes overlooking international flights which of course require a longer regular flight path. I feel like they don’t think I’ll be able to endure the hours for the term of the assignment. I don’t think they appreciated the fact that I’ve been working international flights for the bulk of my career and I still feel healthy and energetic enough to take on the role. They didn’t say but I feel it was an automatic decision and the interview was extended to me as a courtesy for my years of service. I’m just really bummed out. How do you think I can prevent being passed over for another promotion because of my age?

That’s tough. I don’t really know what to say, other than I wish every flight attendant was as enthusiastic as you!

Can you find another job with another airline? Maybe the international job wasn't a good fit but another administrative or national job opportunity is a better option for you in terms of what seems to be the company demographic hiring standards.

Micaela, Maybe ask your supervisor what they were looking for? It’s better to keep a clear line of communication with these types of things.
Miicela, I was a flight attendant for 26 years for Southwest airlines. I took early retirement. I happen to know Soutwest is hiring, Frontier,Skywest, Delta, American, American Eagle, Atlas Air. and some private companies. Reynolds & Reynolds, Jet East. Just google them I get notices all the time and I am t.hinking about going back to work after the first of the year. It get's in your blood.does n"t ? The time off,, being able to work as much or as little as you want. Google each of these and look under careers. I hope this gives you some ideas and Good luck. Lisa Renwick
