Who should I use as a reference on a job application?
supervisors from previous jobs aren’t working with those companies anymore so I’m not sure who I can put down as references on this application. I need 3, should I use my friends or family members?
Great question. First, only put names tat you know will speak very very highly of you. Now, given that - the best refs will be past bosses, then coworkers, customers/vendors you dealt with often, then teachers or someone you interacted with in a professional manner (volunteer gigs) then friends/family. See if you can't track down those past bosses if possible, if not the. Ask some coworkers. And when u do track down - send them a "get praise" link from your myinfo Jobcase profile section- then we'll have all those references for you forever- no matter where they end up going. It doesn't hurt to ask. Call or send an email to your previous boss if they're still there or a Human Resources officer. I'm sure they can accommodate.
