Administrative Specialist at Universal Staffing Agency

Annoying

I'm getting tired of scam schemes that waste my time. I applied for a position on Ziprecruiter for a "entry level admin" position with Legacy energy (which also calls itself Dragon Energy Expansion/ Spark Energy) who reached back out to me for an interview. They emphasized "no experience needed" which I found odd since I have 5 years admin and admin specialist experience. Since I'm in the Bay area of California, I shrugged off not seeing anything in a google of them, and took time off of my shift for my current temp assignment to interview. I get in and after 2 minutes talking to the hiring manager (who started our group interview 15 minutes late after walking around before hand) I realized they were wasting my time. The position was one where they use a "4 step system" hiring then training you and immediately after promote you to assistant manager, then manager with in 10 days of that. You're then expected to form your own branch and have hired 7 people below you for the same 4 step "process". During the "interview" the hiring manager slipped up, saying that we would be getting called back this evening for our second interviews, before we had even said a thing. I almost laughed when the "assistant manager" called me back just now to say "wow I don't know what you said but it must have been the right thing because we'd like to schedule your second interview". I honestly feel bad for anyone with less experience or who is unfamiliar with business practices, and who has their hopes set up for this kind of thing. I've interviewed for 2 such positions in the last 6 months, and see dozens of much more obvious postings for them each day.

Sure would be nice if Ziprecruiter would screen these listings.

Thank you for posting this. I applied through zip recruiter about 5 minutes ago and the assistant manger already emailed me back.. very odd at 7:56 on a Thursday evening.

I probably wouldn’t have wasted my time since there is nothing about them to be found via google searches, but still, thank you! A younger more naive version of myself may just have wasted a lot of time and energy that I don’t have with two littles in my life.

Thanks again!

Sounds like a Pyramid scheme, I would ask at your WorkOne Center. It sounds like they are taking advantage of people, what I don't know is where money is changing hands. Ultimately the State's Attorney General is the one that investigates these companies, so it may be worth making a call if you have any facts concerning the people you had contact with. Good Luck...

It was a redflag to me that these people have no online presence or business profile. When they contacted me, I had not actually applied to them, the scheduler was nice however she chose her words very selectively when I asked about the position and how she got my resume. I had innocently scheduled but after talking to several friends and family, realized I too should not waste my time. I'm glad you shared your experience. Thank you!

THE PYRAMID MULTI LEVEL WAY OF DOING THINGS IS STILL PRESENT OUT THERE IN RECRUITING JOBS. you become a manager build your own team is based on VOLUME SELLING . meaning hire you and you will bring in your mom your dad your brother your sister your grandmother your etc: and so on. these type of companies are all over . recruiting is a pyramid scheme that only the top make money . they count again on VOLUME SELLIING in my own business I nickel and dime myself to a large creative salary but my volume is helping the volume of people that struggle to make ends meet and make it affordable rates to help them get thru life. so the VOLUME IS NOT IN SELLING OR RECRUITING THEM TO BRING ON OTHER PEOPLE . its about helping the volume of people in these categories of life. NEEDING MONEY TO MAKE ENDS MEET . FIXING THIER CREDIT SO THEY CAN QUALIFY FOR PERSONAL AFFORDABLE HELP . BETTER PAYING JOBS AND BETTER PAYING CAREERS. your right zip recruiter doesn't screen so that means a lot of so call MULTI LEVEL PYRAMID SCHEME COMPANIES GET OUT ALMOST A SCAM BUT NOT QUITE SINCE REACHING THE TOP YOU CAN MAKE IT IN ABOUT 50YRS OF YOUR LIFE. there is legitimate legal creative jobs out there . continue to look :

I think you need to do some more research before you judge a company based on your opinions. When you complain about something, do some research before you claim a company is false or a scheme. Here are some of the websites for you when small companies represent suppliers. Read the Senate bill 656 if you need to. I don't think you understand what small companies really do as starters.

Look at all this information.... Based on how they run a company however is up to them. Not you. If that is the process, that's how it's run. If you didn't like that and just complained about it. You're naive, learn and maybe you'll appreciate what companies like Dragon Energy or even Legacy would teach you. Just because of an interview.

Hi Sydney, I understand what you're going through and you're not alone! Scammers are EVERYWHERE. They will try to get you whenever they can because they know jobseekers might be desperate enough to throw caution to the wind and ignore danger signals. The best way to combat scammers is not to give them the time of day, and to keep yourself educated!

Also it's truly hard for jobs sites to stay on top of things, and it helps greatly when people report scammers. Check out this handy article from ZipRecruiter about this very thing! https://www.ziprecruiter.com/blog/how-to-avoid-job-scams/

Yes is annoying. When I apply to these sights I get a million calls about student loans or something. We want a legit job not something that's going to waste our time.
