You are only as old as you feel
I had this lovely couple one morning. I went to the pick up location and out came two lovely older folks. They were carrying luggage so I quickly hopped out of the car to grab their luggage and open their doors for them. The older gentleman told me that was his job so he in turn opens my car door. I smiled and thanked him. I started the trip and noticed they were headed to the airport, so I had to ask where they were headed. The two of them were headed out to complete their bucket list. Super excited and interested I asked what kind of things were on their bucket list. The two went on and on with riding hot air balloons, sky diving, biking through trails, polar jumping in Antarctica! I was amazed- these two must have been in their 70s or 80s. I told them I envied their courage and they shared with me that they have been together for over 57 years- they worked their whole lives being careful and cautious. They are true soul mates and best friends and wanted to be outrageous while they still could. I told them about my husband and how we have been friends for 15 years and reconnected and timing was just right- and I was lucky enough to marry my best friend. The woman started to tear up and put her hand on my shoulder and told me to treasure every moment because you just don't know how many moments you have. I have never wanted one of my trips to never end, but this time I did. I wanted to chat longer but we pulled up to their destination. As I grabbed their luggage out of the car the older woman gave me a warm hug and I shook the older gentlemans hand. I wished them fun on their trip. I couldn't help but smile- all the way home- I walked into my house to see my lovely family and I just hugged them so close. I couldn't help remembering the tears in the woman's eyes and thinking something must be going on - but they had each other and now is the time to make memories with your loved ones. I took the rest of the day off to spend with my family. My husband, my daughter, and I went to the beach to enjoy the sun and the sand , but mostly each other and making our lifetime of memories. #MyDrives
