WTH are you all talking about????? we are the ones that work the hardest.
Pretty soon they will figure it out. Employers want fast, more production, and do it in a short period of time. Older moves slower,
I am 66 and every time I apply for a position I don't get it, even though I have many years of office experience, as well as life experience that younger people don't have. I am still looking for employment working remotely. Hopefully something will turn up soon because even though I have worked all my life and am now on Social Security, it isn't enough to live off of. That's a shame too.
I am 78 years old and had been working as an office manager until Covid hit. I loved my job but my company suffered and lost most of their business. You ought to try and find a new job at my age. Impossible
File with your state or federal commission against discrimination. Age-based discrimination (those 40 and over) is illegal.
I am in the same boat. I have over 22 years in the Health Insurance industry and I have applied to over 31 positions and I am not getting any offers. I even have someone on the inside that send the referral for me that they recommend me for the job. I am over 50 and I believe it is age also. My thanks but no thanks emails always say we have went with more qualified candidates. I know for a fact on one of the positions they hired an 18year old that just graduated high school. I get it, they can mold them to fit their needs but stop crying that you can not fill positions when you have qualified candidates applying but you choose not to take a chance on them.
Yes, we work the hardest but it's not easy to get hired when they know you will only be working for one to three years possibly.
I'm 58 and have experience in a number of areas and keep getting turned down. And flat out told I'm too old. Yep, too old. They want people who are 40 or younger and the younger the better because they can train them up the way they want them. Walmart is a perfect example, I have more retail management experience than most of the managers there yet, they won't even hire me for any position. Stocking, receiving, cashier. My son got a job there on his first try last July. I've been trying since last June. I've passed even their management assessment. So it looks like I'm going to deliver for DoorDash and Uber Eats for awhile because my business got closed down due to Covid back in March of 2020 and I lost thousands of dollars and I owe so much money I can barely make it from month to month.
Tell me about it! I was in a project with an equal number of younger and older workers. Us old men eased on in early, took breaks and lunch within the allotted time, and eased on out at the end of the day. The young'uns would come in right under the wire, snuck out and straggled back in from breaks and lunch, and were chomping at the bit to get out of there. They were smart and capable, but seriously lacked a work ethic.
You said it working expecially women do so out of fear do to the fact they support a family'generations in fact
I am an Operations Manager and find that the 20 something's are a real pain to deal with. They call off or don't even show up in the morning and they are the first ones to complain. On the other hand, when I get older applicants, I find I can really count on them to do a job right and suck it up when things don't go exactly as planned.
