Was discriminated against
I have been a hha for over 6 years and I had to move to Florida to care for my mother and when I lost my mother at the end of March I applied to facility for special needs I got the job and as I went to orientation and did the physical part of it I was told that I didn't squat low enough to do a transfer so I fought it and I went back to the second time and this time they humiliated me even further by making me go down on my knees even though I did and still said I couldn't swallow enough to lift a person on and off the floor I don't understand why they did this to me I have done this for so many years including with family members I have moved on from the health field but I still feel that's where my heart is what should I do

I dont think this is a case of discrimination but I'm not sure. I would need more info, however, if u believe it was then where is your proof? If they made the test even more difficult for u the second time maybe not being hired is a blessing in disguise. Maybe care.com will be a good site for you to review to work with kids, pets, and or the elderly. Blessings!

Stacey I do understand your situation as you explained it.... Now we should go the other way for a moment. Your physical build does have a part to play in some employment opportunities. If you are 5 foot 2 inches and your wt. and gerth is over a set amount then you can't drive a school bus in some counties here. See if you are too large then you can't fit to get to a child in the back of the bus. Such is so as a paramedic who does flight EMS. The helicopter can only carry so much weight. Well I don't think that we can clearly see any discrimination against you here, but it's disappointing to you I know. Just try a different line of work that might not depend upon your physical make up. It's a win for both you and your mental health. You won't feel belittled and they won't have to tell you that you're "NOT A GOOD FIT".....

Just curious as to how you feel this was discrimination? Are you basing it upon gender, race, age, etc...?
I am not trying to belittle you or question what you encountered, I am sorry that you were left feeling so bad after trying to get a job, I am just curious as to what made you use the word discrimination to describe your experience.
Thank you.

Don't let a previous situation discourage you from working in the healthcare field. Look for other facility, you can even go to assisted living facility or day programs for special need children.
