Terminated without explanation

Got hired. First day was 8/27/19. Did one day of training and then was sent to my own desk on day two with minimal help (job wasn’t too hard). Over the next few months, i Was given complements about how great i was doing, , how fast i pick up information/software. And i even felt appreciated by the owners wife because she kept saying “I’m so glad you’re here.” . I was Even offered benefits after my 90 days (never received them). I was also shown a yelp review that mentioned my good service, by name. I even have the picture if it hanging up in the main office. Then came January 10th, 2020. I was called in the office and terminated by an outsource HR rep. I was surprised. I had no issues or complaints prior to my termination and no warning (of course). I asked why i was being terminated and the HR rep told me “i don’t know. However the company is “streamlining” your position into a hybrid role. But we are offering you unemployment”..... well, i signed up for unemployment and after just one payment, i was cut off and told that the company SAID they fired me under my 90 days and i don’t qualify......i worked there for 5 months and was given my vacation/ sick time. I’m still confused about why i was fired

"“streamlining” your position into a hybrid role", not much to make of that statement. Question... were you the only employee terminated or were there others? Have you been keeping tabs or been in contact with anyone still working at that company? They could be struggling financially or going out of business.

Going with an outside HR resource is another questionable move to let go of one employee. Companies usually do this when mass firings are involved.

I think they should have given you options to go into the new or other roles. At-Will Employment allows companies to separate relationships with employee with little or no reason. The law is the law but how employers chose to manage that experience says a lot about the culture and how they treat their employees.

You're obviously a highly skilled and high performing employee Britney Mcfarlane . I'm sure there are other employers in your area that are going to embrace your contributions and value your participation on their team.

Unexpected terminations experiences are never easy but it's important to process, overcome and move forward. We're here for you!

Stay Encouraged
