Designer

18 years of experience in Graphic Design and have applied for 307 positions...rejection after rejection. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing. Yes, I've gone through 8 recruiters now and have revamped my resume at least 12 different times.

I'm not sure what to do or turn to anymore as I've run out of options and have exhausted every last option in trying to get hired somewhere. Very lost, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I agree take a vacation. Try looking in other fields you can use graphic design anywhere. You might be happier in other fields. Take a class to stay current in new developments in your field.

R C It's time to find out what the problem is. Reach out to those you have met with and ask for feedback. You really need it at this point. Be open to their assessment and critique. Clear your mind of any assumptions and discover what's truly going on. Be pleasant and upbeat -- You will be surprised how many will be willing to chat with you.

Licensed Daycare at Portside Rehab Center

Let me start out by saying I feel your pain I lost my job a year ago in June I worked in healthcare for over 25 years and lost my job for no good reason I thought my world had come to an end after losing my job but let me tell you what I did to survive you might have to look out of your field of experience and search for things maybe that you like to do I know it's really really difficult. Think of something you enjoy doing and go after it and have faith that everything will work out

Senior Outside Sales Representative

Hello there, I went through the same exact thing with 23 years of industry experience in Staffing Sales. I was unemployed nearly 3 mos and had to take an entry level position in another industry. It’s not what I want but I had to work. So now I’ll continue to apply until I find the right role. For me I believe it was about ageism. I empathize! My suggestion is keep plugging away and something will come:) Best of luck!!

I am afraid Suzanne above is right. Employers rather pay a lower salary to younger less experienced designers. You can try free lance work where you get paid (good) for the work you do - but no benefits and no paid sick/vac days. Good luck.

More experience more $$$, dont want to pay. Competeting with the younger crowd. Ive been doing this for 40 years! It was great when it was hard for an individual to own their own typesetting machine, stat camera etc. I did great. So once computer came along every Tom, Dick and Harry is doing it. Even competing with the “world”, where they will be happy to get a nickle. Hence these websites like 9 designs etc. Luckily Ive had pretty much same customers for last 20 years...but as they retire or they lose customers....so do I. The ones I do have are PRINT BROKERS. Works well, they go out and get the work...you do the work...maybe for a little less, but you keep busy and make money....

Try the Marketing Department at Engineering Firms! They always need layout designers for their proposals. Maybe go to the companies in person with layout examples and your business card. Some smaller companies may not know that you can be the catalyst to promoting their business! Don't give up RC! With your experience I see bright things in your future!!!!

Where are you applying? More than likely if you apply a sign shops they won’t hire you because sign design and regular print designs are two completely different animals. Try magazine companies or marketing companies those will be your best bet. You can also see if s sign company would be willing to train you or watch their sign guy design a sign or vehicle lettering. Good luck
