Discouraged
My area is rather remote and jobs clearly are few and far between. To top it off - I am truly surprised the companies that hire families and boyfriends and girlfriends. Many organizations that try to help feel I can travel across Lake Champlain with ease to work. There is a ferry and 90 minute drive 1 way to get to the bigger cities. I cannot accept a min wage job with ferry and gas expenses. Is anyone familiar with Burlington, VT area? I have a 4 yr degree in Business Management and Marketing. 18 plus years in clerical positions. I would love to go back to working for myself again but getting started again has been also discouraging. It's a lot of work and lots of hours and I was always the happest. I need it to pay my mortgage and insurances is what causes a lot of problems. Ideas, suggestions are appreciated.

Have you look online at https://ratracerebellion.com/, or VipKid I teach English to children in China part time for $22 and hour and I also do some odd end jobs for Amazon and Lionbridge. They are all at home positions so you don't have to worry about gas. Just an option while you look. Let me know if you have any questions.

Keep searching, LoriAnn. The perfect job for you is just around the corner! Hope you have a great day.

San Francisco is a Sanctuary city. Free school, job placement. Thanks to Governer Gavin Newsom. He gave those low income housing for under $500 a d free subway passes. Especially out of state.

Hey LoriAnn Daniels - I actually went to school in Burlington! It's a beautiful area, and I would have loved to stay there for a few years, but the job market is just pretty desolate compared to other areas.
My issue when applying for jobs up there was I would have had barely any experience compared to other applicants, so I would get an interview, and then the dreaded 'we're looking for someone more qualified'.
I ended up widening my search to the Boston and NYC area, and found something great here! But with your degree and experience, I am sure you can find something! Did you go to UVM, Champlain, or St. Mikes? If you did, you could contact their career centers for some job leads from alumni! If not, that's alright.. Check out New Breed Marketing in Winooski - they're located in the Champlain Mill and I know they are hiring right now. Also, Dealer.com could be a potential fit for you in a project management role or something similar! Never hurts to apply.
Good luck Lori, we are rooting for you!
UVM medical center is ALWAYS hiring. They will pay for your ferry as well.
