Being unemployed for a year and half
Are employers less excited about interviewing an applicant who has been unemployed for close to 2 years even when qualifications, education and experience are top notch?

Rightfully so, the employer wants someone they know will get up in the morning, and be able to make it in on time, as they did for the past 2 years. If you are off that long, you could not be looking very hard too. Most employers expect others (and governments) to find work within 26 weeks (1/2 year) which is generous to you. You can paint the house remodel and do other work to keep things newer cleaner and modern, or begin a new job skill, going to school or finding ways to improve yourself.
