Is working for a start-up company better than a corporate job?

Start-up companies offer more creative opportunities but I’m not sure how they match up with corporate job security and growth opportunities.

Corporate doesn't mean security, flexibility is where your security lays. I'll take start up everyday, the challenge is a rush. I'm a think outside the box problem solver, it's easier to fix the issues in the BEGINING.

If you have the offer of a role in a startup Ben just jump at it mate and I'll tell you the reason why you will grow with the company, your input means something and you can make a difference none of these will you get in a corporate environment you'll have the security yes but you have to follow the guidelines not make them. You can learn a lot in a start up but heck the choice is yours whatever decision you make you will have thought it through and it will be the right choice hope this helps a little

Ben, A corporate company has it self establish whereas a new company is just getting its feet wet. A corporate will take some time to establish your self. The new company has it disadvantages but you can move up the ladder quickly.

Mr. Preston: You know yourself better than anyone else, you know well your strengths and weaknesses. I know individuals who don’t like to work for another, they are entrepreneurs, who love challenges and like to manage their time in their own terms, they often own their own businesses and hire executive assistants or secretaries, based on the extent of their business approach. If the new company has a good Director that is well invested, you may find out that is actually very rewarding, and may offer you more freedom into making decisions, you may find new avenues of growth and new challenges that may spike your career. Get a closer look to what they have to offer, avenues of growth and how it matches with your professional talents, skills and education. Check as well the credentials of the company and the Director or board of Directors, their achievements and goals. How they advertise themselves and if there are any revenues. You may find out that is challenging and exciting to promote yourself. All the best in this New Year 2016!

I would be very careful taking on a job with a start up company. Particularly if you're coming from a steady and secure job. This just happened to me with a company that has do e well through other channels of distribution, e.g on line, but they wanted to open their first brick and mortar and they just weren't ready for that. They promised me all sorts of things including support and two weeks into, it went from hot to cold and they let me go with no real reason. It's now December and I'm collecting unemployment when I had a good situation at my last employer. All i was looking for was a challenge with better pay. So my advice to you is to be careful.

Hi Ben: Happy to help you out! Keep in mind that no place offers 100% solid job security, so don't limit your job search by where you think you'll be the longest. With that in mind, I think it all comes down to personality type. If you're a go-getter who can work from the ground-up in a fast-paced environment, you'll do well at a startup. If you prefer a more traditional approach to structuring your day and having concrete promotional goals to work toward, you might prefer corporate. Again, it all boils down to what you like!
