felony

I received a drug related felony about 15 years ago. I began working part time at the age of 13. Worked part time until graduating high school. At that time I went to college for 2 semesters but had to many extra circular activities and it wasn’t for me. I came back to work at the same company I worked for all the way through high school. When I was 28 I got mixed up in some stuff I shouldn’t have. Needless to say I ended doing 18 months in jail. I worked up until going to jail. Got out and went back to work for same company. I never thought I would ever have to look for another job again. I was wrong. I worked for a family owned business with a brother of mine. He came to work for the company about 10 years after myself. He went to college off and on and got his degree in hotel and restaurant management. He worked in the restaurant business until my father passed away. After my fathers passing he came to work there. Now at the age of 50 I find myself looking for employment. When my father passed the company was financially sound and had no debt. At that time is when my brother came to work there and he took care of the office part and I took care of field work. It wasn’t long and he became very controlling and him and my mom (owner of company now) Always kept me shut out of the finances involving the company. I never knew what they took from the the company for income, bonuses or anything. Let’s fast forward about ten years. The company is now having to borrow money to keep doors open and make payroll. Mind you we have just had eight years of the busiest the oilfield has ever been. I am telling them they better start saving every dime they can because things are going to be slowing down before to long. And believe it or not it does slow way down. Then my mother passed away. The company is left 50/50 to my brother and I. But in the will my mother had set it up where he had the option to by my shares if he wanted and I had no choice in the matter. Well guess what, with the debt he had acquired for the company due to his appetite for the finer things in life the company wasn’t worth anything. I received enough money from my 50% to pay my house off I had already been paying on for the last 10 years and that was it. Now at the age of 50, I have over 30 years experience in my line of work but all your Mom and pop companies are gone and now because of a felony I am finding it difficult to find a job. Your larger companies won’t even look at me because of my past. It is total B.S.

Bro, I know where you're coming from. I'm in the same boat and ita not fair. I've never done drugs before but because my father asked me to help him out when he got stage 4 prostate cancer, I gotta pay for it. I rolled him up some of his own prescription and because of that, I was charged with distribution and because he had a gun (that wasn't loaded) I was charged with having a firearm that indirectly protected the weed... it's not fair man, trust me I know. I have to go to treatment and learn about all these drugs I would've never thought of doing before now as a result and cant find a job in my field that pays what I'm used to so now I'm living check to check... it sucks.

Okay we all got stories. We all got a rite to be heard. Sending me an email from jobhat full of stories while I'm thinking it's for a job is a fuck-yard thing to do. I read and read all these stories and comments for a damned hour thinking there HAS to be a JOB OFFER in here somewhere!! Waist my damned time!!! TIME IS MONEY!! TIME IS OPPORTUNITY!! In the time it took to read all that, get all freaking annoyed, then to write this dumb ass rant, I COULD'VE MISSED MY CHANCE at employment! So everyone, tell your stories to yourselves not others. I don't need to hear them, I don't need to hear my own I don't need to whine and cry about what bullshit I caused myself to endure I need to find a job that's all. Employers don't want to hear our stories either it's fucking awkward to them and makes them feel burdened and in a difficult spot where they themselves have to make hard choices and in some cases lose their own jobs just for bending rules to give you a job. So hush. If application asks about criminal record leave it blank or LIE. If you think a check will be ran give your middle name instead and go to license branch to get a replacement ID with your middle name on it instead. Tell them you never got a social security number established cause yo mamma didn't do it and so far it hasn't caused you any problems cause you've always been paid as a contractor and did your own taxes. Tell them you can provide them receipts for your services if need be. You have the right to refuse payroll and instead receive cash so you can handle your own taxes. The LEGALLY CANNOT DENY THAT, but they can refuse to employ you and hide behind payroll being company policy......is never shut the hell up if I don't stop here

I am also a felon. Our stories is alot alike. I am in a halfway house trying to get my life together from being a drug addict, felon, homeless. My heart goes out to you.. the struggle is real. Just dont give up and always be honest. You might get a 100 no's, but you will find someone to say yes that will relate to you either because of their situation or family member.

I agree but never give up!! Have faith that God will fix it. I know how you are feeling and you have to take it off. Take the rest of your money and take it off of your back ground check. This is the only way you can move forward in life and also get the job that you deserve. Don't let something as small as a felony get in the way. We all make mistakes so don't beat your self you . The good thing is that you can correct it. The one thing I will leave you with is this no matter where you go or what you choose to do a background check will always be done. Yes you have changed and I want to say congratulations to you for turning your life around. Keep your head up and know that your Job match is on the way for you .

Most of the time employers will interview you. So put down the felony an willing to talk about this felony at interview. Where skills is on the application put down as many as you have, but do not lie. Good Luck Signora G. Jones
