I sometimes have to laugh

I often wonder who are the people pulling resumes or is this electronic system that most companies are using even worth the money. I have 18 years of experience, my resume....impeccable, and working on another professional degree with a 4.0 GPA. I interview and speak well and look professional (the typical dark blue professional fit dress, stud earrings and a watch with basic nude shoes, hair pulled into a semi high bun, make- up is nude with a daytime look). I even opt to leave my designer bags, diamonds, etc., at home to avoid intimidating a interviewer....Trust, it happens!!!!

I treat interviews like a 2-way street, after all, who wants to work for a pompous twit!?!

I know the recruiting/HR lingo, interview questions and process....hence to my background and degree....so what is the problem!?!

Either I made too much money at my previous job or recruiters want to stick me in that EA position that no one want, although the job likely pays well, both the recruiter and I know, there is NO growth in that position.

I changed a few letters on my name to test the theory that men are called for interviews more than women....let's just say that theory stands true.

I have had my fair share of racism in the workplace and in interviews as I have sat across from some snarling individuals with their nose in the air expecting me to kiss some..... well you get the point. No, I don't have the "yes boss" attitude but I do have is...I respect people mentally!!!! I will not even go into some of the questions I have been asked on interviews.

I'm told I interview well with the exception of those pompous people....at that moment, I give you the same energy you give me....Like I said, I treat interviews like a 2-way street. By the end of those interviews, I think it's safe to say neither party is interested.

I will continue to push forward....I even started applying for jobs out of my league just for s*** and giggles.

I say the same thing, I have been in North Carolina for a year and I can't even get a job at McDonald's even with a Associates degree. I am ready to move, maybe its my age...

Charlene, I hear you. Myself, I have more experience then the job asks for. Yet "Not so much as a letter of acknowledgement. We all as job applicants have to talk the talk. Walk the walk and hold the training required. Yet no reply! To me this is rude and improper at best. For myself, I got out of the Rat Race. Today I drive the big trucks that haul the goods to the market. A big change, only no more games. You know, my engineering history warrants a 6 figure income. Only with the low pay scale of the illegal imagent migration. I'm done! My country has sold us all out to this money making low quality work force. Nothing made today illustrates quality workmanship. Landscaping work is simply good enough. Buildings are all the same. But my point is, greed has taken over. This needs to be fixed.

I agree with you in continuing to be true to yourself. Unfortunately there will be some interviewers out there who will test the grounds. Stay strong and positive. You will meet someone who values your talents and appreciates you as I did.

I would agree with Ashley W., be the confident person you are. It is a shame that a well qualified person has to go through junk like that. I hope you find a wonderful position and pays you for your experience and education!

First, congratulations on the job offer, well done! We are always most frustrated, right before we reach our goals; so continue to persevere.

The job market is always changing and adjusting along with the interview process. You will face any type of discrimination you can imagine: ageism, sexism, classism, racism, etc. I share so many commonalities with you, and sometimes there is no explanation to why you didn't get a job. Also, we must all keep in mind that not everyone understands the nuances of interviewing or the process, so they aren't keen on how to approach it. Some people want to work with their "friend" or a person that they have similarities with. Some want to work with people they find "attractive" for all types of reasons. Some people want to work with their family (nepotism) because they feel that they should pass something on to their children/family as some form of legacy. Some people want a specific gender, or want someone they can push over, control, manipulate, but always feel superior. Some jobs close before the hiring process is completed. There are so many variables, that all we can do is focus on our controllables, the exact way you've been doing. But thank you for posting this.

Very well said. And yes, we do interview potential employers but very few realize that. You just have to weed through the positions that are wrong for you in order to get that golden RIGHT one. With an attitude like yours... It's a sure thing!
