Great ideas with the mock interviews. I also recommend using your smartphone to videotape yourself answering interview questions - yes video, not just audio. The first couple times through, you WILL cringe when you hear and see yourself (EVERYBODY does, no matter how good you are); but by the 3rd or 4th take, I can almost guarantee you'll see a dramatic improvement!

Hey Amanda, I'm sorry to hear that went poorly for you. Don't sweat it too much - I am sure you will find plenty of other opportunities. Here's the thing though - you will relax when you are confident, and you will be confident when you have practiced this much more. Find some friends who will role play on the phone with you. Give them a bunch of questions and let them really push hard on areas you are uncomfortable with. Do this at least 1 dozen times. Always do your phone interviews in the same setting, make it a bit of a habit. Then when the next real one comes in, you will be more than ready for it - and you'll be relaxed because you've already done it so many times - in the same setting with similar questions. Point is, Amanda. I wouldn't go for surface level relaxation - I'd drill down to the core (especially since you are in sales) and really get better at phone interviews themselves - and let this expertise drive your confidence/performance/relaxation. Don't worry, this is definitely a skill anyone can learn - but like anything else - it takes practice, practice, practice! Good luck, hope this helps, and THANKS for being part of the Jobcase community and asking a about a situation I am positive many many of us also have shared.

It probably wasn't as bad as you think. ask a friend to "mock interview" with you so you are already comfortable with your answers. Ask then them to throw some usual interview questions as well as some tough ones. When I first entered the workforce that helped me a lot. I don't get nervous anymore and I always look at it as if I'm interviewing them. I ask them tough questions as well like; what's a typical day like? How are problems dealt with? and so on and so forth. Take a deep breath and I'd follow up with a phone call back or a hand written follow-up letter if possible. I'm sure you did great. best wishes to you.
