Dilemma with low salary

I went on an interview today - it went really well. The HR Director and V.P. of Operations and Administration both loved me and was upfront that I'd be the perfect candidate for the position. It's with a family oriented company with people of integrity is exactly the atmosphere that I've been looking to be a part of. While the position comes with benefits however the salary they gave me is half of what I've been earning. My issue is I know my value and what I can bring to the table. Even so I'd still be taking a pay cut if they paid me the number I gave them. They were aware of my experience and realized that the salary would be low for me, and asked me what my number was. I said I'd be comfortable with $6 dollars more than what they were asking. I am now facepalming myself because I can't help but think I ruined my chances, that maybe I was asking too much? I'm still waiting to hear back to set a follow up interview the Director who could be my boss. I plan on writing the HR Director an follow up thank you email tomorrow afternoon. Well, I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to bring up the number I set - but that I'm flexible and would like to know if the salary could be revised after 6 months or so? I struggle with this because it's not like they have offered me the job yet. The salary is not something that I would be able to live off on, however the company, location and people that are a part of it would be too good to pass up. I'm at odds because I know if they can't meet me in the middle, I may have to walk from a good thing or get a part time job - and that will be difficult. Any insight, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

My advice to you or anyone else in your position is ask yourself if this is a job/company that you'd be excited to go to work for everyday? Money isn't everything and I would rather work for less doing something I'm passionate about than make a lot of money while being miserable. Of course if they're paying far below the market value that doesn't bode well of them and kinda says employee retention isn't high on their list of priorities.

GREETINGS !!! STEPHANIE : I KNOW THAT LIFE GETS HARD AND YOU ARE JOB HUNTING. YES! YOU KNOW YOUR VALUE AND YOU EXPERIANCE AS A + IN YOUR LIFE. YOU ALONE KNOW YOUR HOUSE HOLD EXPENCES AND BUDGET. IF AND WHEN THEY OFFER YOU THE JOB. IS THE MONIES THEY ARE OFFERING YOU = TO OR GRATER IF YOU WOULD BE WORKING PART TIME? REMEMBER PART TIME GIVES YOU NO BENEFITS. USUALLY YOU DO NOT DISCUSS SALERY UNTIL THE LAST INTERVIEW. YES! YOU CAN SEND THEM A FOLLOW UP LETTER DO NOT MENTION MONIES. WHAT YOU NEED IS TO GET YOUR FOOT INSIDE THE DOOR AND GO FROM THERE. DOES THE JOB.SUIT YOU? IT SEEMS YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE PEOPLE, BUT THATS NOT GOING TO PAY YOUR BILLS. THE BEST THING IS KEEP IN CONTACT AND KEEP LOOKING FOR YOUR IDEAL JOB. IF YOU GET HIRED HERE THAN THATS A+ AT LEAST MONIES COMING IN. SOMETHINGS BETTER THAN NOTHING. THAN WHEN YOU FIND YOUR IDEAL JOB GIVE 2 WEEKS NOTICE SO YOU DO NOT BRN YOUR BRIDGE. IF YOR NOT HAPPY AT THE OTHER JOB AT LEAST YOU MAY BE ABLE TO COME BACK AND WORK HERE. YOU HAVE ALOT OF OPTONS. JUST KEEP AN OPEN MIND. HAVE A BLESSED DAY!!!

You don't need to send email to your yet to be BOSS that might bring you down so cheap,Don't settle for less unless they will increase your salary after three month.

It is important to value the effort and added value that each of us brings to a company, if you consider that the salary you earn is very low, it does not make sense for the company to have an excellent environment. value your skills, check them ... and then think about whether it is worth getting the position.

Well, they're 3 types of payments for you, High, Medium and low. Always go for the medium pay, because you may not get the top dollar , but always pray about and talk too the mangers about it and just compromise. You know what you are worth. But they do not. So always talk too the upper management before hand.

Greetings,

I recommend putting a salary range based on responsibilities instead of just asking higher pay. Even if you get that higher pay, you'll be the first one to go if they need to get rid of people. Also, business/department have set amount for labor cost and they may not be able to afford your services.

Another recommendation, after looking at your profile, a bachelor's equals just $1.00 more than someone without higher education and counts as 2 years of experience. If they offered you $10.00 per hour, you can only ask for an additional dollar.

Final advice: look at the position's average pay at Glassdoor before attending any interviews to have an idea what a fair pay should look like. Learning is the best form of pay.

Cheers!

Here is another thought, when a employer says to you what will make you live comfortable. Take a deep breath, tell them what you made on your last job. Do not take a steps backwards. If they come back with something totally low. Smile tell them I need to really think it over. They will tell you your the exact person we need. When you leave make sure you leave them guessing. I new I was the one for them also. Then they sent a email 10 hours later and said let’s renegotiate salary. That’s when I knew I had the pocket aces and now I was going for the gusto. There offer was $50,000 for the start and in 2 months will look at it. Bennies ect..... I came back with $85,000 when I left last job at $72,500.00 They called me 30 min later and said would I agree to $92,500.00 - bennies- Car allowance- PTO M- F pick your start time. The rest is history. I just went out and bought a new car, and will play golf the next few days and start next Monday. I’m going to grow this company because they believe in me. Believe in your self and your ability you will shine.
