Today I had an interview that turned out to be a phishing scam. I write this as a warning to others that have not yet encountered this type of scam. I've actively been searching fro a job over the last two months. I use a few job boards as well as receive emails from places like Creative Circle. Friday I received a job posting via email that sounded pretty good. It was late in the afternoon and I was eager to get out of my office, so I fired off a reply with my resume. On Monday I received an invite from a person posing as the company's HR person to join him in an online interview via Google IM. Sounded legit so I opened up my google acct and initiated contact with this person. Over the hour-long process, they asked several job-related questions that seemed normal, however at the same time I was researching the company they were posing as. I soon realized something was not rights as the real company had nothing to do with my line of work. Upon checking it's career page, there was a warning about phishing scams using IMs and their name. Needless to say I ended the faux interview just before the fake HR person sent their last question, "How would you like to get paid? Bank Direct Deposit?" So, be wary if you have not come across this (as I have not). Stick to the known job boards and away from IM interviews...
