Looking to get into Recruiting

I am looking to get into the recruiting field after having worked within college career services departments, where I have been responsible for event planing, relationship building, and career development, and even job placement, which were held to strict metric guidelines. I have also been responsible for hiring all student workers, conducting interviews, appraisals, and terminations. I am now finding it very difficult to make the transition into recruiting, particularly within corporate recruiting, or even campus recruiting. It is an industry that I am passionate about, and I am now considering taking a job as recruiter within a staffing agency to make the transition. This position is more entry-level, and comes with a significant pay cut, which I can handle, but my question is am I selling myself short here? Any advice is appreciated.

Talent Acquisition / Recruiting

Hi Chris, Thanks for posting on Jobcase. I have been in Recruiting for the past 5 years, so hopefully I can help with some insight. As you know, there are different Recruiting focuses, such as college/campus recruiting, corporate or agency. It seems like your background would definitely line up well with college/campus recruiting. I think you should continue to look for opportunities in that, but also keep your options open. Sometimes companies may want to have someone with experience in their company, before sending them out to represent them at school events. I started my career in the agency world, as do a lot of Recruiters. It teaches you a lot about the business and opens your eyes to a lot of different skill-sets and types of people. A lot of times the base salary will be lower, but you can usually make up for it with commission, as long as you are successful. If you'd like to talk in more detail, feel free to message me directly and we can talk more. Good luck! -Mark
