Misdemeanor 7 year rule in Alabama
What impact or if any does this "Misdemeanor 7 year " rule play on a theft conviction 10 years ago. I was a cashier at a department store and an acquaintance came through my line and as I checked her out she put unpaid merchandise in her bag. When approached, she told security I knew her and they accused and charged me of the crime as well. Unfortunately, without knowing the law, having an appointed attorney and never being arrested I did what the attorney told me to do, I pled guilty even though I was only guilty of being at the register and being associated with the person who stole merchandise. I'm sure this shows up on my background report. Any suggestions on how to handle when explaining situation to a potential employer.

I think you should have call the BAR ASSOCIATION (not a alcohol bar) I live in Florida....so it would be called The Floida Bar Association. So, call the bar association in YOUR State and respectfully state your case. You might have a civil suit that the bar association can help you with AND also get your record CLEARED...Good luck in the future and be careful of people...sometimes they don't have your best interests in mind.GOOD LUCK.

they should have picked up on that when she said that she knew you. Oldest line in the book, projected blame. have you tried to expunge it?

Oh gosh, I'm not sure I would know what to do. I'm sorry that happened though! That was really crappy of her to do that.
