We have conducted interviews lately. PLEASE, PLEASE, DRESS APPROPRIATELY! You should always dress like you want a job. I work in retail and our associates cannot wear jeans, flip flops, sandals, or shorts. Take the time to visit before your interview so you know how to dress. I can guarantee you won't get far coming in looking like you're going to the beach or a concert! Usually safe choices: chinos & button down shirt with appropriate & clean footwear for guys and girls...if females want to wear a dress/skirt nothing that shows too much cleavage, and length should not be more than 2-3inches above the knee. Jeans only in good condition, no holes fraying, or fading! Good grooming is essential! Wash your face, clean your nails, brush your teeth, use deodorant, easy on the fragrance! No over the top accessories for mainstream retailers. (Some stores catering to alternative clientele have different standards). You only have one opportunity to make a first impression, make it a positive one!
Excellent advice, Debi! This is definitely good to be reminded of once in awhile.
