Reminded why this job can be great!
I've been trying to switch careers from food service to healthcare for a long time now. Ever since I got my certifications I've had one foot out the door at my current job while I look for jobs in healthcare, which is why I was so surprised today when I got the sweetest compliment ever while working today. I was serving a family of three and brought them their check. The little boy must have been about 6, but he whipped out his little velcro Spiderman wallet and held out a dollar, "You're the best waitress ever!" He said. Me and his parents laughed and I graciously declined the dollar. After they left I was cleaning up their table and I noticed that he'd drawn me on his paper placemat with a chocolate milk walking to his table with "best waitress" written under it. I showed it to the other girls and we all "awwwwed" at it and laughed. Even though I've been dying to leave this job it was nice to be reminded of one of the positive sides to it. It's certainly going to make it easier to come in for my shift tonight!
I will also be one to, "AWWWWWWW!!!" I waitressed on and off for about 8 years to pay for school and what not and I KNOW how hard that job can be. Your pleasant customers can certainly make it all worth while. It's always nice to be reminded that others appreciate us, whether it's given to us in the form of a drawing, a kind word, or even a smile. It's great that you are looking to move forward to another career, I am so happy for you!! Let me know if I can do anything to help. Save the drawing, it will remind you one day of just how far you've come! : ) #stayamazing
