This is a story that my stepdad shared with me many years ago.
He worked at the B&O railroad. He started a summertime job there as a yard worker in 1946 when he was just 16 and still in high school. He was ALWAYS on time. He NEVER called in. When his manager came looking for him, he was ALWAYS where he was supposed to be and doing what he was supposed to be doing. He was ALWAYS the first to clock in and always the last to leave. At lunch, he would eat and then IMMEDIATELY go right back to work. At the end of his 1st summer, the supervisor told him "if you come back next year, you've got a job." He worked both summers during high school. One day they asked him if he wanted to become a yard engineer. He did that for a couple years. Then they asked if he wanted to go into the engineer training program. This man was a full rated engineer at 21 years old. He worked for the SAME company for 46 years. Retiring when he was 62.
Point of this story is, whenever you a hired to do a job, you should always try to do the best job that you possibly can do. SOMEONE IS ALWAYS WATCHING EVEN WHEN YOU THINK THEY'RE NOT!!!
