Public Safety Telecommunicator and Age
I recently applied to be a 911 operator or public safety telecommunicator in a nearby county and they sent me the next step in the application process. But a problem I often have is that even though I have worked in a variety of positions since I turned 16 and have many extracurriculars, employers do not choose me for more advanced or full time positions as I'm only 18 (turning 19 in August). I'm hopefully because they reviewed my resume and moved forward a step so they obviously know my age, but worried that they will take someone else over me just because they are older.
Anyone have any tips to help present myself as mature as possible? I always try to dress well, wear an appropriate amount of makeup, come prepared with any documents I might need, be early, etc.
And if anyone works as a 911 operator/dispatcher/something similar please share your experiences and if you have seen any younger employees.

That age thing doesn't discriminate, older people say the same thing about ageism. This is the first time I've heard a young person state they are experiencing the same problem. But,t you are correct now since you brought it to my attention I did have problems getting certain types of jobs at your age. Down with ageism it really sucks, all I can say is keep pressing forward if you or maybe your parents know someone in a position to help you get your foot in the door somewhere ask them for help. Sometimes it's not what you know but, who you know good luck.

I found [these tips] (https://www.levo.com/posts/how-to-make-yourself-look-older-during-a-job-interview) for you Mercedes! I hope they help : ) Stay strong, I think you are on a fantastic path. If you do land that job it will be a huge opportunity and not many people are a right fit. I bet you would do wonderfully. Please keep us posted!!!

Miss Mercedes Lynn, as I see you and as I'm reading your work history, you should easily be a solid standout. Because of your passion and love for your job, usually gets noticed! However don't be afraid to seek out people in the human resources dept., let them know about your desires for furthering your career.
