good news and bad news

Good news is I finally got a job after bring unemployed for 14 mos. Bad news is I had so little training, only 2 days, I am so stressed as my job is important billing and collecting payments I did a lot of this at my previous job but in another way it much different. I know I am not expected to know everything after 2 days but still I am fustrated that the previous Yonly trained me for 2 days and left When the other employee called her at home to help she seemed mad.

Sheila yayyy you got the job! Look, I wouldn't worry about whom ever getting upset. This is probably someone either going thru it with something else or "omg, this newbie is calling me about something I know about for years and bothering me about it when she should know the same thing I know." blah blah. I wouldn't worry about it. Someone is or will be upset, mad, whatever ... you did the right thing in asking for help. Its better to ask for help and do the job right than to not say anything and assume you might know and mess up. That's just my philosophy. I'm sure she will reflect on how "mad" she got and think to herself, "maybe I shouldn't have gotten upset." Just keep doing what you feel is right to get the job done.

As an admin asst, I know which side to place paper in the feeder of the printer so it prints directly to the letter head. One employee, kept asking me, about more than 5 times which side goes which way to print on the letterhead. Yet, this person was an admin asst before. I never got upset but inside, I thought "when is this girl gonna get it, it goes this way." So the 6th time, I showed her and told her to grab a piece of paper and "write this done so you can always refer to it when you go to make a printout." No more questions.

By repetition you'll get the hang of it and this occurrence will only be a memory. You are proactive in asking questions which is a good thing. Its always better to ask in order to make sure you're doing the right thing than to mess it up then be told "why didn't you ask?"

You know "billing" just that some methods may be a bit different. Don't let someone's slight anger at nothing deter you from doing a good job. Just tune out the "anger in her voice" and tune in on the procedure you need to get the job done and right. :)

Well, first off, Congratulations on your new job Sheila. That's Awesome News! The important keyword to remember here is New. I agree that a two day training and on-boarding plan is not the best way to welcome someone into what seems to be a complex job but I'm sure they decided to hired you because you demonstrated a capacity to quickly manage the work during the hiring process. Stay confident and give yourself some time. You Got This!
