Mid life job hunter
I am 52 years old with a very long work history. I have worked mostly in manual labor jobs, but I have also worked in much easier office positions. That being said I wish to share of my job seeking experience with you. In today's job market employers have the luxury of picking and choosing from hundreds of candidates for one position. So sure you may be educated and skilled in the job you are seeking, but your resume does not reflect that. Most people fail to even get considered for a job due to a poorly written resume. As we have some in previous postings, Grammer, punctuation is only part of it. Most people present employers and job recruiters with a generic resume. Sorry folks that will get you over looked. What you need is a resume created specifically for the position you are applying for. You need to high light skills and education for that job. Do your research on the company. I have found this to be a fantastic tool and it often puts you in a very good interview position. It shows you are serious about working for that company and have taken the time to get to know the company and it's culture. It also makes the interview process so much easier. Just some food for thought on the job seeker road. Also be sure to take advantage of agencies that do temp to hire. They are sometimes the best way to get your foot in the door. Just make sure you do your home work on them and make sure they are a good company to work for. Read the reviews.

Thanks for the heads-up, Lawrence.

Well said.

Thanks good advice Pray you land the job that you apply for GB

Hi Lawrence, I am 54 and agree with you that a resume tailored to the position being applied for is key, getting across the required experiences and qualification within the boy of the resume' . Despite me not being a big fan of working for a temporary agency, reason being, they make money off of our labor, you are again right, if that is what it takes to get a job, then by all means! Good luck and God Bless!

Thank You

Very interesting to know Lawrence, I'm also a mid-life job hunter. Thank you.

Excellent advice. Maybe you should start a consulting firm specializing in helping older folks polishing up their image for a new job search. Looking for job at 54 in an entirely new field was not something I planned for 27 yrs ago when i entered nursing. Thankfully life has taught me how to roll with its punches and do whatever I need to do to remain in the ring.

Glass door.com for office positions, indeed. Com for warehouse work. Check to see if there is a hiring event this month everywhere hosted by Lowes. Google it!

David, I am a 50 plus individual and recently I posted that I was able to land my "Dream Job". It required that I do my homework. I learned as much as I could about the company. When I interviewed for the position, I was able to highlight what I could bring to the organization. Continue to move forward, there is a job out there for you.
Thanks Lawrence. What good adviceadvice☺
