Is it worth making my resume fancy and pretty?
I am refreshing my resume. I have being reading conflicting advices on the internet. Some people says to be creative with the formatting, layout and fonts of the resume and other people says don’t, keep is simple. Is anyone know if it’s worth making my resume fancy and pretty?

No. Do not make it "fancy." Stay with one font for a "clean" look. Potential employers want to see clearly what YOU can do for them. I've read a lot of people talking about "infographic" resumes but while they may be clever and more appropriate for art people and designers, it just doesn't work for 99% of job seekers. My former resume was called out for different fonts, different colors and I had looked at it so long, I never "saw" that. I quickly mainstreamed it.

Keep it brief but appeasing not fancy. Contain your skills (professional /non professional ). Mention whatever Interpersonal skills you've developed throughout your personal and work experience. Most employers in theses times are more concerned on what you can bring to the company's table. The key to obtaining any job is to meet the employers emotional side, this promotes trust b/w you and the company. I'm a candidate recruiter for Sterling Inc. Btw

I found clarifying dates are very important. I was working 4 per Diem jobs concurrently but it looked liked I had jumped from one to the other because they had different start dates. Do be specific what you are doing in time periods; you don't get another chance to make a good first impression.

Alvin,
The recommended fonts are Helvetica and Calibri. The most important concept when preparing a resume is to show the hiring manager what you can do for the company.
The way to approach this is to highlight your accomplishments and make them quantifiable while showing relevance to the open position. Keywords are also essential as this will assist you in getting through the ATS systems which are currently used by HR professionals.
Hello Alvin, As a designer, a great looking and outstanding resume was always essential. I think everyones resume should reflect the industry they are in. BUT when it comes to applying online, a plain text, no formatting, basic font body of copy is all thats required. Save the nicely formatted and properly layed out resume for print and presentation only. And proof read always.
