GHOSTED by a recruiter!!
I’m just so confused right now. A week ago I got a message on LinkedIn from a recruiter specializing in my industry asking to speak with me over the phone. I replied back within the hour and we set up a time to talk the next day. The next day comes and I leave work and find a quiet space and wait for him to call me. And wait. And wait. Finally he sends me a message on LinkedIn “Sorry, I’ve been pulled into a meeting. Can we reschedule?”
Ok, so I’m a little annoyed but it happens so I understand. I definitely make sure to be friendly and understanding when I reply. I also ask him what time works best for him, since I have a pretty flexible schedule. Then I wait for a reply. And wait. And wait some more. By the next afternoon I’m wondering if I said something wrong, but then I look back at our chat log and I can’t find any instance where I said anything even slightly offensive. So I message him back suggesting that I’d be free at around 3:30pm if that works for him. Then I wait.
That was last Thursday and since then I have heard NOTHING from this guy. I feel like I’m going crazy. I look at the conversation and I can see no reason why he would want to drop me like that. And the things that bugs me the most is that HE contacted ME! Why contact someone out of the blue if you’re going to drop them like a hot potato the moment they show interest? And what else can I do? I have already sent two follow-up messages which he hasn’t replied to yet. Do I just keep sending him messages every few days? I’m sure that’s bound to get annoying for both of us. Anyways, I came here to vent, but also to ask if this type of thing has happened to anyone else. I have the feeling that I might not be alone here….
Could be a scam. Just like when you get a phone call and they only want you to answer yes, no, or maybe. When you say yes, they use that for fraud purposes. They have then gotten a written or oral confirmation from you and use it to open fraudulent accounts somewhere. Huge scam going on right now.
It happens that's normal the employer gets tied up and maybe thinks you as another ca adite and locks on to them thinking its you?

I'm a Recruiter and believe it or not, I myself have been ghosted by Recruiters too many times to count when I've been on the job market. I'm not excusing the Recruiter's behavior, but I will echo everyone who is commenting to "not take it personally." Recruiters have metrics we need to hit and many of us end up losing sight of the human element of what we do. We also oftentimes appear "flakey" because Agency Recruiters, like myself, are constantly at the whim of the companies we recruit for. There's a good chance that the position he had you in mind for fell through. The Recruiters who give all of us a bad name, refuse to invest an iota of their time in any candidate they can't place at that very moment. I bet that as soon as he gets another position on his desk that fits you, he'll pop back up again from obscurity and pretend to be your best friend. Recruiters like him are a dime a dozen. Trust me when I say this, the Recruiters I know who are successful build trust and rapport with their candidates and can take the time to do it. The guy is shooting himself in the foot by treating candidates as disposable, and he's going to end up getting burned, by his flippant attitude, if he hasn't already. The fact that the Recruiter contacted you in the first place speaks to the fact that you are a stand out candidate within your industry. I wouldn't rule out working with Recruiters, altogether, as I think you should keep as many options open as possible. You just have to find one who is worth your time. Something great will happen soon!
Find another job opportunity but at the same time just remember what had happened to you beforehand so it won't happen again. As far as to go back to that wait interview, you should get that employers number and tell him about what happened. Sounds like you been missed at getting the response and opportunity that you've always wanted.
Wow! Why doesn't this surprise me! Oh I know why, cause this is the kind of crap we encounter on a daily basis. These are simply obstacles in life's everyday journey, stay on your path, don't let it trip you up. You have goals, go get yours!.
I know there are some very knowledgeable, efficient recruiters out there but in my experience, for every one of them there are 100 arrogant PIAs. Certainly continue to talk to any that contact you but don't spend too much time and energy with one who isn't producing. Good luck.
toss if you have your resume on LinkedIn.. there are a great group of recruiters that are looking there.. crossing my fingers for you..
Ugh Bothersome
This has happened to me in the past. It is nothing you did - there could be a variety of reasons. For one, they no longer need to fill this job; they found a much better candidate (in their opinion); this recruiter was just looking to bring in resumes to show his boss he was doing something.. and on and on. Nothing to do with you. But regardless of the reason, he was totally unprofessional and I would definitely NOT contact him in any way. As others on here have said, not someone you want to deal with going forward.
Lots of scams on LinkedIn, don't trust the site. Talking from personal experience.
