Plenty of companies prefer the seasoned worker

Your post on ageism is probably more an am I qualified than age problem. I retired at 61 and took a few years off to volunteer then hit the bricks again. Found out Social Security doesn't cut it and if I wanted to do something other than pay bills I was going to have to find something to subsidize my lifestyle. I did interview with a few companies for a 'real job' and was ready to sign on the dotted line when my better sense kicked in and said to me...are you nuts ????? That's why you retired in the first place. So rethought the whole thing and decided to take on something that would allow me to have the kind of schedule and flexibility that I wanted. I went into something totally different than I had ever done before and 7 years later I am very happy with my choice. In fact I now do the job for 4 companies. A little experience goes a long way. I'm good at what I do now and very happy and thankful for my 'second career'.

That's amazing to hear you are thriving in your 60's in the job market Karen! Sometimes retirement doesn't always work out, but it sounds like you found your new role and you're very happy. Any good advice to pass along to those looking for work in their 60's Karen?
