How am I even supposed to respond to this?

The guy who interviewed me on Thursday just called me to tell me that they went with another candidate. Fine, I said, but what did they have that I didn't? He said that the management was looking for a younger candidate. I was so surprised that I didn't even know what to say. What am I supposed to do, tell him that I'll be younger next time?

I know the feeling this online job posting is not for me , I've owned 2 businesses by the time I was 20. So I'm either over qualified or under qualified because I was smart enough to build , incorporate, own & operate 2 businesses at the same time with no college degree by the time I was 20 yrs old. Fortunately then it was a better economy then and unfortunately I went through a divorce after 20 years and at that time I felt it was best to liquidate everything. Wish I hadn't done that but it's too late now. I've given this online posting and resume my best shot spending hours a day getting me no where but solicitation calls and registering for the same jobs over and over again. I'm realizing this is not the best way to find a good paying job. It's only cluttered my emails with tons of job sites with the same jobs I've again already applied for. I think I will shut them all down and go by referrals only since this has been a complete waste of time searching for jobs i know are hiring. I don't need solicitation of education calls I need good paying job. I'm far from stupid and feel this has been a complete stupid waste of time. Also feel what your going through is without doubt discrimination! Best of luck, I've had enough of this I feel it's all a scam. What ever happened to going into a place of business and giving a resume in person? I have so many job sites up cluttering my email box that when a real one does come through i will completely miss my opportunity... How much more experience does one need when they already owned 2 successfully and started them both from scratch with no help or further education for 20 great years. Will just have to do it again on my own. I loved the responsibility of owning and being in charge of my own companies...Much luck to everyone else!

I am very sorry Nathan what you went through. I am kindly assuming since you're here on this forum asking what you should do about it that you're not familiar with Title VII and federal age discrimination practices in hiring, firing, applying, and on the job in the workplace. I would contact the EEOC about this company and file a formal complaint with the EEOC link here:https://www.eeoc.gov/. You will have to contact them to find your nearest field office and go into the office in person to file the charge and sign it. This was a form of discrimination about being younger. I will not though that the age discrimination laws are for 40 and older workers. Never the less there still could be other discriminations within this event and there are short federal statues on this issue, so you need to take action immediately and discuss with an intake officer that can help you whether your event meets charge guidelines. You can also consult an attorney in your area that specializes in employment and labor law. I hope this helps. Do not tell them you are going to take action. Just take it. You'll be stopping other qualified candidates from suffering the same treatment as you did. If you need anything further I can be reached at my public email @ battleonyourknees@gmail.com.

isn;t this blatant age discrimination? I wouldn't want to work for someone so "stupid". He will also find that a little experience goes a lot way when compared with youth.

Well I'm not really sure what he meant. Maybe he thought someone younger would be able to do more. Like move quicker or something. Or maybe he used it for an excuse. I been trying to get on here all day to get a job and nobody will call me or respond. And I'm only 33. If he said that then maybe you're to good for the job.
