Fake job
I applied for a job in a school district. I got a reply email saying they were interested in me and asking me to fill out the online application which took two hours to finish. The position is still posted. In the meantime I heard from a reliable source that the position is " not a real job- fake job" . The job is created to get money to pay the people already assisting the Music Director. The job as it is posted, does not exist. Is this fraud? If they ask me for a interview, I plan on going and recording it. Unethical? Should I go to the superintendent?

I like to post a comment on fake jobs. Beware of advertising for paid positions to become mystery shopper positions. These companies are generally based in the Philippines and place advertising online or texting. They offer opportunities to tryout apparel from stores like Walmart or Nike, and other sporting good stores. They will send to you a check normally $2,000.00 cashier check directions to deposit the check and make withdrawal/wireless transactions. You think you are making a ledgitimate transaction, the checks are FAKE! and you're out of income. There's a saying "if something seems to good to be true beware!.

What you need is documentation from them. A documented offer, a job description, anything you can prove it is not the job they advertise. You should also keep the add. However, I don't believe anything will come of the illegality, unless there is something going on illegal. Many jobs have you do tasks not in the original add, so it would have to be really bad, as lying is not a felony. Good Luck...
When it comes to funding for schools, they have to get their money by any means necessary. They most likely will fill the position internally and posting the job is simply a requirement to get money in the budget.
Ethics is a tricky thing to define when it comes to schools trying to get money. Is it rude and a waste of an applicant's time? Absolutely. Do they have any other choice when it comes to funding? No, the have to post the job and interview, even if it is not truly an opening.
I don't know that you should record the interview. I am not sure what you would do with the recording. As far as going to the superintendent, I am sure they are well aware of the practice.
