Why don’t we update our resumes more?!
I remember a time when I was younger and went from job to job for a bit. While I was looking for a new one I eagerly wanted to add fresh things to my resume, but the problem became I couldn’t remember WHAT I had done. This is because we often don’t focus on jotting down things to add to our resumes when we need them or when they actually happen. We tend to wait until we leave a job and ask ourselves, “Ok what the heck did I do at that last job???”
So think of it this way, as you enter new jobs or even with each of your old ones ask yourself…
What did I do that was great at my job today, last week, or last year? This could be a special project you completed, deadlines you met, how you performed your job daily, etc.
Get out those notebooks and pens and write it all down. Then type it up and organize it before you insert it into your resume. Check to see if you have overlapping skills and focus on what is new and significant. You will be surprised to see how much you did in your role and how it can apply to your next job.
The goal is to grow that resume AS you are working so if you want (or need) to move on, your resume will be ready to go!

I'm guilty of this. I'll go years without updating my resume then go out of my mind trying to remember everything I did at my last job when it's time to look for a new job.
