Am I doing something wrong?
How am I not landing a job during the hiring season?
Am I doing something wrong?
Because I haven't been employed, I don't have any money. My car is not registered anymore nor does it have auto insurance. I don't have a fall back which means I am homeless. My parents are absent; my dad passed away and my mom lives with one of my brothers.
I have various experiences from my previous work places but it seems no one wants to hire me based on what I tell them during the interviews and based on what they see on my resume.
When they ask why i want the job, I always tell them I am trying to build a career path with the position that's being offered. I always tell them I am trying to gain experience in my field of study in college. I haven't been able to land a job with these answers. What exactly are employers looking for?
I've applied for administrative assistant jobs, cashier jobs, call service jobs, and I never landed a single one of them.
On top of that, I even applied for general labor jobs like warehouse but they tell me I don't fit the bill so they won't hire me. I even applied for jobs in places that are much more liberal, but I couldn't land those neither.
Am I doing something wrong?
P.S I went to visit a job coach and they sold my information to telemarketers and profit universities. I never got a single lead from them.

My position at the last company I worked was eliminated company wide. I been out of work for 8.months and been interviewing constantly. I get the same feeling you do and want to give up . Dont give up keep pushing because I will not hive up . I believe God test us all and when we least expect it he belesses you. So keep the faith and keep pushing for that job , cause I will too

Um so like u need to tell them u want to be a team player offer them some asset to contribute to the job offer and see what kind of employment programs ur city offer. Research the jobs u apply for find out what they lookin for in a employee the job description. Good luck god bless

What about if you switch your answers...

Just a thought ....Jobs are also looking for people who possess soft skills, are any soft skills listed on your resume? Some of the most common soft skills employers are looking for and will be assessing you on include: Strong Work Ethic. ... Positive Attitude. ... Good Communication Skills. ... Time Management Abilities. ... Problem-Solving Skills. ... Acting as a Team Player. ... Self-Confidence. ...

Tim - Well, it sounds like what you're needing most at the present time is income to provide some 'breathing room'. Let's see if we can provide some assistance in that direction.
Grab a notepad (or whatever) and a pen / pencil. Now, jot down EVERYTHING that you CAN do. Not just skill sets in your field of study, but everything. For example, can you walk dogs, paint houses, mow lawns (or shovel snow, LOL!), clean houses / apartments, repair cars, make home repairs, repair garments, etc.? Can you play an instrument, or sing? Work on computers, program computers, TYPE on a computer (obviously, you can!)
The point being, write down absolutely everything you possess as any sort of skill set. Likely, your list is going to be rather long. ALL of your skill sets present job opportunities. ALL of those job skills are work skills and someone is getting paid to do them.
As transportation is a currently a challenge, take another page and make a list of ALL the businesses that are close enough for you to walk. With some jobs, it may only be necessary for you to get to the 'shop' and a company vehicle will take you to the specific job site. This isn't at all unusual with businesses such as home remodeling, landscaping, etc. Arrive at the shop, load up, and go.
Head to each and every one of those businesses within walking distance, and see if they're willing to hire you. Now's not the time to be shy. You're 'full-time job' right now is to find a job.
While some folks feel it's "demeaning" to go 'begging for a job', quite the opposite is true! It's quite honorable to be in pursuit of employment, or clients or customers. Bill Gates, at one point, was 'begging for customers', too. And Steve Jobs. So, you're in good company!
As was mentioned by someone else, try the temp agencies. Call, e-mail, visit, as the case may be. This is IN ADDITION to visiting local businesses.
The idea is to take ACTION. Doing so not only provides the quickest results, it also focuses your mind away from "hopeless" to "hopeful". The irony is, when we most feel like giving up is the time we must be most proactive. It's the best opportunity for success.
Remember, this is your current 'job'. Your job is to find a source of viable income to provide for yourself, for those who count on you (spouse, children... pet parakeet!), and the ability to get your transportation back in action.
Once that objective is attained, the next step is to... keep searching! Once you've achieved that breathing room and are back to being mobile, you can search further away for a position that 1) pays more and, 2) is more in line with your field of college study.
It's not always easy to 'keep a positive attitude', but having a plan to follow with specific benchmarks will certainly help maintain that positive attitude. Hopefully, these ideas will help provide some positive action to take, and a direction to pursue. Remember, you only 'fail' if you quit. So... don't quit!
Best of luck in your endeavors!

Tim, this is just a guess because I had this same problem,I learned that I was applying for jobs I wasnt qualified for. What is your degree and what experience do you actually have. This can play a big roll in why your not getting hired.
Here is a checklist of common mistakes:
1.Degree and/or experience doesnt matchup with job qualifications 2.The salary you want is more than they want to pay 3. When they ask what your goals are you tell them you dont plan on staying there for a long time 4. Your over qualified 5. You are so stiff because of nervousness you dont smile- This is especially important if its a Customer Service position 6. Background Check- could be they check your credit and its not upto par- jobs like bankers/ Tellers check this. 7. Applying for a job where you have to travel and you have too many points on your license 8. Because you couldnt pay your house, you lost it and thats appesring on your background credit check. 9. Are you hirable? They ask your passed employment if they would hire you again.
There are sooo many factors, but I hope this helps.
I tell you with the interviews your getting your getting more inclined to getting a job because you will get more and more used to the interviewing process. Love you Brother, praying for you in Jesus Mighty Name!

Well Tim, welcome to Jobcase and the world of unemployed. I liken looking and landing a job can be like searching for a car. You try many out but they are not the one. I know that desperate feeling and beg them for the job only to walk out and feel the rejection once again. Then I have to remember, there is only 1 job that belongs to me and I just have to keep looking until I find it.
I pray to the Lord for all of us on here that God would open up great doors for a great job for each of us.. That prayer includes you Tim. When I get to the point I'm looking online and looking till there is nothing left to look at. I take time away from sitting at my computer discouraged and then skim the ads on my phone and save those I think are a possibility. Then the next day I'll go back on and look some more.
Most companies no longer want people coming into their businesses applying. If they say to apply in person I will go there if I feel it maybe a good fit. But only to have them literally just take the application, and not be able to talk to anyone or have them get back with me. That is rude and discouraging because I've taken the time to shower, dress up and spend my time and gas to go about 1 hour away to only have them take an application or my resume..
These are the days we are living in. Keep your head up and pray and keep going..

No man is an highland in life God knewn you before you knew him

It can be tough out there. I have been told I am overqualified for at leat six job ( read too old) I was also told I would not fit in because I wore a coat and tie to the interview and was too dressy for the job ( read too old)
If you are interested in warehouse work, UPS, FedEx and Amazon are hiring seasonal workers. They start to get busy soon and will need help. They all hire a lot of people.
Just something to get you by until you find a better job.
