Is age working against me?
I am 54 years old and just re-entering the workforce. I have had trouble getting a job because of my age but i need a job asap.

I also feel that my age is holding me back. I have a BA in Health Care Administration working on my Master's and can't find a job. I have over thirty years in the field and it seems that this is playing a part in If I were in the position of hiring I would prefer to hire a seasoned worker since there would not be an issue with child care or the possibility of them leaving after training.

We'll Christina age doesn't Matter as long your healthy and moving Normal you got nothing to worry about I know women s older then still working. Don't let these people bring you down. Have alil Faith in your keep searching never give. I believe in you. I believe you are going find a job trying working in farms. Chicken factory duck factory. Turkey hills keep trying

I am re-entering the workforce after being out of work for 5 years. I have a Bachelor Degree in Accounting but no certification. I prefer Auditing but there are very little jobs here in my hometown. How do I know if I am the victim of Age Discrimination. I have my Bachelor Degree and over 20 years of business experience? How does a person tell if they are the victim of Age Discrimination and if so which government agency do they report it to.

I am about to be 46 BUT BY ALL MEAN I FEEL AS A YOUNGESTER ANS FULL OF ENERGY SO IF U ARE A SURE FACE AND BUSY COMPANY U SHOULD CONSIDER MY TIME WOULD NOT BE WASTEFUL

I am so sorry to hear that you, and so many others who want to work, are having a hard time finding a job. I am 52 years old and was recently advised to make my age less apparent on my resume. Age definitely can hurt you at some places. I do believe, however, that this is not the case with every employer. You just have to keep on trying and know that it is not personal. It is not your fault and you certainly are not alone!
I used to work outside of the home, but spent over 9 years at home when I had children. My husband was an executive and we moved around and I did not want to leave my kids with new caregivers on a frequent basis. This absence made going back to work hard. My advice for everyone is to apply with different temp agencies. They have a variety of jobs--for some assignments you need experience, for others you don't. The pay can be low, but as you get experience, sometimes opportunities open up for better pay. I started taking administrative assistant jobs because I could type and use Microsoft Word. Now, with some experience, I qualify for Executive Assistant assignments that pay better. I also discovered that there is tons of great training for free online for software that is commonly needed for business, such as Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook. WWW.gcflearnfree.org is a great sight that offers really good training. The segments are short and you can take as many as you have time for, then take a break and come back to it when you have time. You can learn how to do almost anything online--it is amazing. The more training you have, the better! Good luck to all!

I really do thank age plays a factor today. My last job was at a university working in the registrar office in 2010. Haven't had a job since. I'm 60 years old and I can't find a temp job. If I couldn't get anything permanent so I would work temp. Well not anymore. I have enough education qualify for positions even when I try for lower salary. Now I'm doing volunteer work. There are programs to help 50 and up for job placement. Look in your area online. They have opportunities.

I am feeling the same thing. I am 57 years old. I recently took a course for medical assistant at Remington College. I graduated and am certified as a medical assistant, an EKG Tech and an NCT for x-ray. It seems like nobody is wanting to hire me because of my age.

Christina, I just turned 60 and I've filled out 15 resumes in the last 4 months and I'm still not hired. It's true it's harder to get back into the work force when your'e older. But not impossible.. Hang in there and your boat will come in (me to). Greg

Christina, I just turned 60 and I've filled out 15 resumes in the last 4 months and I'm still not hired. When I was younger it was sooo much easier to get hired. Just don't give up and eventually you'll be hired (me too). Hang in there, your boat will come in!
I'm 50 and I look very young for my age. I recently applied for a position where I knew a few people who were employed there in Hr. I was told that my resume showed my age range and the argument was I was too old (they thought I might even be older than 50) and they wanted young fresh creative thinkers with lots of energy. Had a gotten the interview I think I could have nailed it. In order to show my experience and transferrable skills I list the last 4 positions I had but the time line tells the tale. any suggestions to rework it with out the years standing out?
