Ready for my Second Act

I was a stay at home mom for 24 years before I started working as a private Caregiver 3 years ago. At the first of this year I started considering a more stable position with retirement and benefits. It’s been a long road with 26 applications but I had an interview on the 19th. I feel fairly confident about how it went. Now the wait. I’m 50 but still have a LOT left to offer and I’m ready to build a career!

Hi Amy

Good Luck on your pursuit of your career. I retired last year after40 year s in patient diagnostic and cancer research. Yesterday i took a full time job in the same field in another company and very excited to put new leaf in my tree if life. I need the 1 year off to take care of things and reasses my path. Here it is. But i had to say it was challenging to get back but was lucky with opportunity. To any one after 60+ years of age. You can come back depending on your expertise and field of specialization. Good Luck!!

Hi Amy,

it sounds like you did great on the interview and I hope your skills, acumen, and personality really shined through and that the employer keeps you in the forefront of potential candidates.

I know you mentioned your age, and I know that reading through the posts in this community makes it seem like people 50+ aren't getting jobs because employers are discriminating against older workers.

There are PLENTY of reasons people don't get jobs, and it is easy to assume it is your age when you keep getting turned down. The truth is, employers have so many more candidates form which to choose now with the advent of online applications and resume banks.

The best candidates get hired. Sometimes they are younger and more tech savvy, sometimes they are older/more experienced workers.

I wish you the best and hope that this job comes through and is the start of a great career for you!

Let us know what happens!
