Housekeeping Jobs Advice?

I’m planning to attend a job fair for a local ski resort that’s getting ready for the winter season hopefully get to interview for a housekeeping job. I don’t have any hotel or resort housekeeping experience but I have worked maintenance jobs in warehouses and manufacturing plants in the past. What are some work related task I should keep in mind that would be specific to housekeeping in a hotel or resort I can include in my responses when asked?

part of maintenance is responsibility of safety and cleaning up after fixing things. it would not hurt use maintenance skills as places like this also need be maintained, dusting cleaning toilets sinks and bathtubs vaccumming etc. may i remind you you have to clean your house which if worded proper can be considered experience.

Always keep in mind all women have house cleaning skills we have all deep cleaned and sanitized our own homes. Use that as a guideline scrubbing floors, walls, windowd towelettes, tubes, vaccuming , mopping and so on. That is a great skill we are all able to use. Good luck.

Your experience is different from the job you are applying to. Be ready for questions for that change.

Obviously bathrooms you will need to talk about not only cleanliness but following the prescribed hotel policy on the number of towels and soaps and whether or not the towels are changed while the guests are staying there or after they leave. Talk about changing the bedding and making it neat and also again following policy for when to change it while the guest is staying at the hotel or after they have checked out only. Talk about turning things into the lost and found if they are left by guests in the room. Talk about, and this is the most important, providing excellent customer service when you have to interact with the guests. Tell them you listen carefully to their needs and try to accommodate them within the limits of your authority and if the request is beyond your authority you will always notify your management to get a decision. Talk about being on time both for arriving at work ready to work and completing your work load within the allotted time so that new guests will have a clean room to check into when they arrive. OH and in some hotels there is a mini bar or other amenities in the room that need to be replaced but an inventory must be done to show how many were originally in the room, how many are left and how many you replaced based on an inventory you are allowed to carry on your cart. Obviously they will not or at least should not allow you to carry alcohol on your maids cart. Depending upon your experience you might want to talk about doing the laundry in the back of the house in the housekeeping laundry. You might want to tell them you handled whatever else you have done in previous housekeeping jobs. Definitely talk about your past maintenance job and how it may apply to housekeeping and that the two have some overlap in certain places. Tell them that if there is something functionally wrong in the room you are cleaning you will easily be able to identify it and make an accurate report to maintenance. You get the idea. Oh you will have to take everything I just said and apply it to what you need because I forgot while I was writing that you said you didn't work in a hotel before. But like with the inventories try to associate that with taking inventory of the materials you had to keep on hand in your maintenance job. You get the idea. Good luck!

Expect to be cleaning up a lot of salt and sand… lots of places with snow use salt and sand to de-ice their sidewalks, but the down part of that is that people track it inside.
