Instructor at Rowland Heights Adult Education

I was applying college teaching jobs which twice I need to answer the question: Are you over 40? Had handful of interviews but most only considered as the reserved pool, not for hire rightaway. Then I noticed these colleges had the same recruiting ad few months after. A friend who is a teacher at college said: 1. You don't know any people inside this school. and they running the ad is only to show the hiring process being done, but they may already have a person ready for the job. 2. Most school teachers don't like industry professionals. They may let you teach something not your expertise to begin with to make you feel not so fitted; especially if you are too experienced. I also realized inn the hard way that the interview panel faculties most are not releted to the job. They are there just to ask few questions to see how would you handle it. My conclusion is: age is a factor for many type of jobs. For professional jobs age may not be so cuitical, but leaving the industry then try to come back in is hard. From my previous college teaching job: Dean told me " I can't hire you back if you leave the school." which means I won't be qualify for the job due to my age. Good luck everyone!
