Pride may stand in your way, but if you never ask for help you are unlikely to receive it no matter how much you believe others know whats going on with you. Everyone has their own challenges and although your situation may be undesired by you, you can not expect others to know whats really going on.
Nepotism can work with or against you but its worth a try.
Action step: Put your physical resume copy in the hands of a few friends willing to walk it into the HR office of their job.

And also make certain that you have a case of resumes as backup too and invest in a copier. Or one of those fancy Contraptions of a fax machine and copier as one employer had telephoned me asking me why I was constantly daily sending them resumes by way of the fax machine and I told them that I will continue in doing so until you hire me would you like more copies per day I ended up getting the job

I think nepotism is working with family members, actually. You are right about asking for help. Friends can help, but what if you've been focused mostly on getting and doing work and taking care of your family and have not stayed in touch with, or have no friends because the work was so competitive it took all that you had? Friends are good. Being a really good and thoughtful friend is important. So is finding expert help in your job search and not settling for less because you've worked your entire life.
I'm so excited about your words. I really need a work that will change my current situation positively.
Funny... My friends are the ones who are always putting their resumes in my hand to walk it into a job. They are the ones who are unemployed! It would never work the other way arround!
Living in a town where there are no close connections for me, nepotism has been great to others less qualified than myself. In the same breath, in a tight job market, it works.
Not a bad idea...
That is how itt was done and still is in alort
