System Technician Construction Manager at Wide Open West Wow Southeastern U S Region

Searching

I was laid off due to a management restructure back in June last year. I have fifteen years of management experience and have been applying inside and outside the industry that I spent twenty years in. I have applied for more than six hundred jobs and have received right around 10 rejection responses. The other five hundred ninety I have heard nothing. I have a professional resume and cover letters and a spotless work history. Any advice?

...we go back & forth on these boards about de Role our Creator Jesus has in the job hunting process...seems to me cut & dry---the Person who made the Earth and everything In it & On it & Above it should be consulted regarding employment...Surely you have tried everything you could think of, because I don't think I've sent out 600 applications in me entire life !! ...looks like you have to call on de Big Guns...or...a Whole New Level....Prayer looses de Mighty Majesty of the God Family...just as you had parents or adult mentors, remember you are Still a child of God...why not ask Dear ol' Dad?? We were specifically made with One Sole Purpose...to keep God's Commandments & to Glorify Their Names ( Ecclesiastes 12 : 13 )...to seek God's Wisdom & Teaching FIRST ( Proverbs 1 : 7, (9 : 10), and Then All things Will fall into Place ( Matthew 6 : 33 )...and to Not lean on your Own understanding, but on God's ( Isaiah 55 : 8--9 )....His Ways are as High as de Heavens above, and we cannot comprehend them---doesn't Mean we can't Tap into those Divine Powers....you drive a car---but do you Know every nut & bolt & each wire & where it goes & what it does?? You don't have to--you have de KEYS....well, PRAYER is de First Key---use it to unlock unimaginable Supreme guidance & direction...it'sa Easy---Dear LORD Jesus, please have mercy on me...I need help with finding a job, please show me where to go, place people & situations in my path, and bless me with energy, ideas, and good Health ( also fer my Loved Ones )....please give me a Hunger to read Your Holy Scripture, and Discernment & understanding of lessons & other's experiences Gleaned from de Bible...In Your Most Holy Name Jesus, thank you so much, according to Your Will, not mine...and in You Perfect Timing...amen.....I would suggest turning off de TV & phone & Bow Down on at least one Knee in a quiet area...Take this simple Pow-Wow with God seriously, humbly, and with Genuine Awe & Honor....that'sa called the FEAR of the LORD....sure, God can fully zap you with a bolt of lightening and people should Tremble----but God Truly Loves us, so much that He sent His only Begotten Son to pay our Ransom---we should cover ourselves with that Holy Blood, and claim victory over this present 'life'....but just one word of Warning--if you Surrender and let God do the Driving---you might end Up where He thinks you should Be....and actually, that'sa Not such a bad thing, at all....

First off let me say that I am sorry you are going through this. I know how tough it is! Might I suggest that you take a different look at your skill set and perhaps try to re-invent yourself. Look at different industries using your skills. You will be surprised by what you find. In other words...look outside your box. Personally speaking, I found myself in a simalar position. It's working out now. Best of luck to you!

Same at Same

Hi William. Ive been a similar situtation so I had to take a job as a contractor. May I recommend what someone told me to remove all jobs except those of the last 15 years. If you list more than that you could be experiencing age discrimation like I did. When you interview and if you want to speak on some skills from one the employers you didnt list, just casually mention the skill and say that you learned it from a past employer. Hope this help William.

Accounting Supervisor at Tdb Communications

William I feel your pain. I was unemployed last Sept due the contract I was working on not being renewed. I have a master's degree in accounting. I was finally hired in mid December. During the time I was unemployed I sent out over 1500 applications, and only got a handful of interviews; a few standard "we picked someone else" responses, and about a 97% no response at all. It seems to be the new standard, not to reply to job seekers. I mostly get it, with the online application process companies are getting hundreds of applications for every position and most do not have the time to reply to everyone who applied. So keep you head up, and sending out the applications, the right job for you is right around the corner.

Oh William, that sounds really tough. I'm so sorry it's going so poorly. A lot of it is just not giving up, but have you also looked into any job-search meet-up groups anywhere near you? It might not be the same industry as you're used to, but networking can be hugely beneficial with any job search. You could check your local community center, possibly.

Beyond that, your profile looks fantastic. The only thing I might recommend is adding a few numeric metrics to your more recent experience. If you were managing projects, how many did you manage at a time? How long were they? If you managed a team, how many were on it? Metrics and data can really drive home the point that you know what the hell you're doing. It can also give employers a good idea of just what you're capable of.

I so wish I had more advice, but it's a tough environment out there. Please don't give up, you seem to have a ton of great experience and you're obviously well organized and well spoken. Someone out there will see your value, you just have to find them!
