Stressed
Okay so this pass Tuesday I did an interview for Jcpenny, I passed everything and they told me I was hired just have to wait for a background check and they will call me when they get it for me to start, well it's Saturday now and I know I have a clean background record, my mom told me it usually takes a week. I'm getting worried that I don't have the job, even though I really want it because the people that worked there was very nice and all together seems like a great working environment . What do I do?

Give it another week and then call up. The company they use to do the background checks may be "swamped" with requests they have to act on and then distribute to their vendors. It really takes, at most, 2 to 3 days to get everything about you and now the report is going through the red tape of that identity firm. After 2 weeks, call JC Penney and the firm that is conducting the identity check on you.

I read somewhere recently that the average turn time to hire get hired in the retail industry now is about 3 weeks from the time you get the first interview until start date. It's crazy long so try not to get stress out. Sounds like you are far along the process now so just be patient a little while longer.

I would contact them to find out what's going on.

Your right, It is a great company to work for. I worked for them in my younger days and loved it. If they told you that you had the job and you know your background check should have not problems than rest easy. Sometimes it takes longer than a week. They'll be calling any day now. Good luck and have fun.

Have faith it will be ok

It is a process. And takes a little time. They will call you soon.

Background tests take FOREVER! You should hear something very soon.

Pray and I will be praying with you B Bless

Hello. If this were me, I would be calling the following Tuesday to HR simply under the premise of "following up on your employment status." Remind whoever answers there your name, the date of your interview, ask what the next step in the employment process is, and is anything further needed from you. I would follow that up with "when might I call back for an update on the matter." Be sure to get that person's name you're talking to, and ifvtjus phone call doesn't give you the answers you seek, be sure to jot down the date you were advised to follow up with an additional call, do so promptly on that advised date, and ask to speak to the person whose name you had asked for. Lastly, I would not sit around waiting for call. You must be proactive and look out for yourself. What if, for example, JCP has tried reaching you but misdialed your number. You'd then never got that important call you've been waiting for.
Apply to,other jobs. Jcpenny isn't the only one hiring out there. So don't depend on just that one.
