Medical Assistant looking for employment

I've got my Associate Degree in Medical Assisting. My GPA is 4.0. Unfortunately, I was not lucky to get a job in 2010, the year I graduated. There were hardly any Medical Assisting jobs in the area I live. Besides, I came from a foreign country, and I am a US citizen. Despite my perfect English I have a feeling employers prefer to hire those who are bilingual -English/Spanish. It is almost impossible to get a job when you were not born in the US, and your English is not native. After not being able to find a job as a Medical Assistant I decided to try something else, and successfully passed an exam for a Life and Health Insurance Agent. I also got a CNA license and worked in different fields. A few years have passed since I graduated, and I am still trying to find a job to apply my knowledge I've got as A Medical Assistant. I also have a Bachelor Degree of Science in Teaching English as a Second Language which I received in foreign country before I became a US citizen. The fact that I had a few accomplishments makes me proud of myself. But I need to find an employment that would make me feel accomplished. I still keep my RMA certification and take all the tests for it every two years. My CNA and Life&Health Insurance Agent licenses are active, too. I hope I will get some advice or direction from those who will read my post. I need to work to pay off my student loans, too. There are medical professionals jobs posted on different websites, but employers need experienced Medical Professionals. It is much easier to look for jobs now as there are lof of recruiters looking for people to hire. But I was not able to find what I need. I would really appreciate any offer that suits my knowledge and training.

I went to school for the same thing. Did you take the test to become a CMA or RMA? A lot of practices require it. It is a test through the AAMA. You should take it. It will help. Best of luck :)

Hi Tatiana: I am sorry to hear about your frustrations with your job search. There are multiple avenues you can take with some of your accomplishments. Since english is your second language, I would suggest thinking about being a translator for patients. In regards, to working as a medical assistant, there is more opportunities from recruiters especially temp agencies to get experience.
