Reaching Hopeless
Where to begin my violin story for easiest comprehension. I am a female engineer from the 2000 forward. All I faced from that time forward was prejudice and harrassment. People recommended I talk to HR. That was the worst advice for a woman let alone an a female engineer with no other women in the engineering group all the way to the top. Narurally, HR at GTI told me to handle it. Well, when the topic of my hair color came up over lunch by my supervisor to the point he ordered me to call my husband to verify his claim I colored my hair. Ok today, I'd get up and splash water on him, but I thought playing along I would keep my job. The harassment just grew to unbearable and I left. My boss removed my name from the article I wrote that eventually ended at my next Ft job w/o my name. Of course, the board required my name reinstatement, but it was too late as the dolly had been Sent out. I didn't realize how this would come back to haunt me two years later. I landed a flood contractor role with Dcp in Hobbs , NM. The operators and others enjoyed my engineering prowess but then EPA came. I was put in charge of rectifying the discrepancies in reporting to reality. Once everyone found out I was the one working on it, I became blacklisted from future orohects , my boss went as far as erasing all my completed projects and putting them down as incomplete and last due. Of course this occurred after a previous 'excellent' performance review not two months prior. Yes, I have the documentation of all of this. I was fired for saving lives when I didn't sign approvals on certain issues I believed were unresolved and found the court documentation to support my original statements I was fired for not six months later.
Since then I worked odd jobs f for a couple of thousand a year with no job interviews leaving DCP. I was made to feel like something was wrong with my achieving a higher education making me 'unhireable'. Now I am entering bankruptcy in part due to an injury I sustained on my first day of arrival at a contracting job and am now looking at selling my car for some money to stay afloat.
I can't support Stem in the US as it seems women followed by any higher education in the Sciences are stereotyped to be the dirt of workers with cement ceilings for women, majn!y. HR being the worst the worst in support.
I am at my ends wit what to do as I still have at least ten more years to work, but rejection on rejection with no leads to interviews has raised my hope of ever working at a decent living rate. Yss, i resent when the media repeatedly says there 'aren't enough Americans to fill high tech jobs'. It is BS. We are starving! Computer programs spit us out before an interview for not fulfilling every bullet a hiring manager could think of as a perfect person to employ. They this justify hiring H1B visa workers they train, I know this because I saw the quality of even the ivy league grads, most foreign born, at one well respected company I consulted at. I had to start a dictionary for them to comprehend the words they are throwing around in their reports. I got an interview but my back injury caused me to collapse. No, not one person there offered me a ride or an ambulance to a hospital. I was rejected as an unsuitable candidate and Sent to drive my car back to my rented apartment a failure. Amazing I made it at all!
So I am forming a job program to reduce these bullets no one can fill as demonstrated by many tech jobs remain open for several years. My current immediate need is income of well my house. Now would you like to live this njghtmare?

Diana - Thank you for sharing your journey. I feel your angst, frustration, and fear. I encourage you to take a break from the negative and focus on some of your accomplishments. You are a pioneer. You have broken ground entering a field dominated by men. Although your story has not gone the way you pictured it, you were successful in paving the way for others to follow the trail you blazed. The rejection, pain, and undercutting are all part of what happens when individuals break barriers and defy social norms. The movie Hidden Figures is a prime example. Stay strong Diana and be encouraged, for you are an American hero in your own right! You have much to offer and I would be happy to coach you and help you find another opportunity. I help smart people find work smarter. No charge! I simply want to help people like yourself and trust the love and positivity will flow back my way somehow.
You are amazing and strong, never forget that!! Like K.D said you are leading the way for other women into STEM which is so important! As a past educator, I wish more of my students had taken an interest in that field. You could try Angel.co for engineering positions. They offer many Startup's and women forward companies. Wishing you the best!
