Elderly Care Coordinator at Self Employed

Trapped

I hear that your job stile and/or pay should increase at least every year to two ears, but I am currently working a job where the only time pay increases come is when the contract is renewed once every five years (The company I work for has a contract for services with another company for a particular location). But, in the private sector, job announcement never mention is it is forbidden to talk about salary in interviews. I feel it is a race to the bottom when it comes to salaries and benefits (especially health care). Everything is set up as a trap, especially since unions have been decimated.

Actually, according to our constitution, it is ILLEGAL for a company to forbid you from talking to anyone including coworkers about salary. It is a holdover from the days where you required to talk about salaries just in case you wanted to form a union. Just an FYI. Unions are actually great. They can get you a far better deal pay wise, better benefits, and lawyers who will back you. Think Teachers, Laborers, Electricians, many Large Grocery Chains. Paraprofessionals (teachers aid).

The days of yearly raises are long gone. Companies have tightened up and have no problem holding back on raises or making them very small. I did get a small "raise" every year but by the time taxes were taking out, health care costs were deducted, it amounted to nothing. I spoke with someone last night who said she has never gotten a raise. So either you get high up on the ladder or reset your expectations.

Hello That's not what I was taught you should not bring it up first once they opened that door talking about your pay . Then you can talk about the cost of living because the cost go up when the Big wigs say so . But they also know money make money . The best job is the ones who make their workers happy . In return their workers make them happy . If they don't want to make their workers happy that.will let you know what kind of.Bosses you would be working for .

I agree. However, unions are useless too. The cost of living keeps rising, especially healthcare. However, our income stays stagnant or gets lower.

The company’s contract for services is their problem not yours Sounds like their using it as an excuse if you deserve a raise lay out why but be prepared to get a job offer elsewhere first based on that offer you should be able to leverage your own worth or cut your losses and move on On good terms of course never burn bridges if your hood at what you do even if they let you go they may want you back one day and depending on your next experience you may be open to that part on good terms If the electric bill goes up they don’t use the 5 year contract as an excuse not to pay It’s the cost of doing business they need to figure it out not your company not your problem they need to figure out how to keep you
