Question about internships
I’m home from college for the summer, and I really want an internship in advertising. Any advice on finding an internship? Should I apply for them, or just network to find opportunities? I’ve never done this before!

I would apply and choose that option if given and always network and meet people that are influential as they can only help you. Good luck and don't waste any opportunity to show what you know

I think you should try both because you will gather more information and that will lead you in the right direction on what you need to know.

Hi Jeremy, don't waste your time looking at internship sites. Go to the City Department , Public Health Department, or a company that you know or are familiar with in your town. You can usually go to their website and find the contact person. The best way to get a direct and quick connection is to make the phone call. Also internships are many time kept under wraps and not advertised but most companies have them and would be excited to have you involved and help them out. If they don't have an internship inquire about volunteering. The internships are usually scheduled for a certain time throughout the year but the volunteer opportunity still looks really great on your resume. Whether its paid or not, hiring employers love to see that. Good luck. Love to know how it turns out too. Tammy

Hey there I think you should apply in person.

Your best bet would be to search and call anyone and everyone that can help you right now. The summer is fading and you will be going back to school I am assuming. Next year start you search earlier. Spring break is a good time if you go home for that. Use your schools resources. Reach out for some mentorship. It may be a good choice to look for alternative (online and others) courses for advertising. Just to keep you in the game. I would take anything right now just ask around. Next year start your search much earlier. You may even have the opportunity to work for the school over breaks and summers. wally

Like many have said. Since summer has started you're to late for an internship this with any company willing to train college students. There's an application process which most of the time start around October and go to March. After March good luck on finding a decent internship in your field of study. Tip 2: Stick to internship that match the classes and degrees to are trying to get because those companies speak your language. Tip 3: Research the company before speaking to them, never be caught of guard. Good luck.

Find a local company that does advertising and give them a call to see if they have an internship program.

The hospital I worked for did internships for marketing, customer relations and directorships. The slots were reserved way in advance - sometimes a year out. You may have a hard time finding an internship for a big company now - but that shouldn't stop you. I would get all my ducks in a row and start banging on doors and using any contacts I had available to me. Also, don't discount the smaller firms in your area, they are a great stepping stone and can lead you to fantastic opportunities down the road. You do have a disadvantage because you didn't apply early - but do not let that stop you. We had interns that didn't work out or didn't show. The best way to success is not to let any road bump stop you :).

Way too late to find internship for this summer. Should start looking in Sept
Just follow your heart and listen to God's voice. Even pray about it.
