Stay Encouraged
Hi my name is Anya Steward. I understand the struggle its been hard since i graduated 2 years ago and received my Associate's degree in Office Administration. I tried looking for a job in my field they say i don't have the experience they are looking for that was very discouraging. I continued to pray and ask the Lord for guidance. After 8 months im working right now at a health food store which im grateful and will start working at fedex next week. Will be working the early voting as well and have a business helping business owners with their processing needs. Things will get better ask God for guidance believe in yourself. You got this you are amazing make them see it.

Hi Anya. Many young people get discouraged when they can't leave college and get immediately into their field of study. This issue is more pronounced in some industries than others.
Office Admin is a very broad category, and different industries view this differently than others, so there is no consistency in what they expect from that position. You need to find an industry that you like, take a starter job that has legs, meaning there is room for growth.
People ask me how to start in the hotel industry, and I always tell them you have (2) avenues without school. Take a starter job at a small hotel and prove yourself. Work your butt off and offer to do whatever needs to be done. Sadly many people don't do this and are just passing time on their way to there next temporary job.
Fortunately for you, this creates an open window for those that view the job seriously, and you can be noticed very quickly! Get your experience in that field, and make it clear to the person that hires you that you are willing to do whatever it takes, and what your goals for yourself are.
Once you have been noticed for your great attitude and work ethic, they will trust you with more responsibility, and you can move into the areas where you actually want to be. There is a real shortage of good people available for hire, especially in such a strong economy with very low unemployment. Many of those people are looking for "respect" and are easily "offended", they are gearing up to fail. You need to ignore all that nonsense as all it does is hold you back, and mark you as a malcontent.
You believe you to be a smart, educated young lady, and I think you can make your mark pretty quickly, but don't expect that overnight. Once you have a little experience to build a resume, then you can move on to larger employers that can aid you in further advancement, teach you even more, and continue building your resume.
I know you want to immediately leave college and move into a position befitting your education, but smart employers in the majority of business settings value good experience in the real world more than a diploma or degree. Show them you have problem-solving skills, a ready smile, good work ethic, common sense, and a willing attitude and you will go far in almost any business. Unfortunately, there are many "educated idiots", and that is why experience is prized over degrees for many positions.
I speak from experience and took a route similar to what I just described, and went from being a busboy at 15 years old in 1974, to a GM making 6 figures with no degree, and I did it with the very attributes I mentioned. I worked my butt off, made sure that while I am willing to work hard and learn the business from the bottom, that I wanted to be a hotel GM by the time I was 21, and I was fortunate enough to work for a small company that gave me that chance and made it to my goal. You can do this as well, just like many of the others in this forum that are always talking about needing a job.
Too many people want success and respect on day one, and that is terribly unrealistic with or without a degree. You must EARN respect and remember that no one owes you anything, and that life is hard. As long as a person is hard headed, and thinks someone telling you how to correct a problem is being disrespectful, they will be looking for jobs.
Good luck in your search, I am sure you'll be fine, just be patient. Always aim for the top, but be prepared to start at the bottom!

I'm encouraged. ThankAnya.

I am impressed with your positive attitude sorry to hear that you spent the time and energy in college and for naught? More colleges need to have job placement assistance. Good luck your time will come soon..I wish i haf your optimism
