My biggest mistake while working at the bakery at Smith's food and drug was investing waaaay too much of my time physically, and emotionally. I spent so much time there, that I had become attached to , and quite fond of the people I worked for and with. I did anything and more than what I was asked, and covered people alot. Maybe because I had this strange idea that it could be more than just another job. I had gained seniority, on paper, anyway. Then I realized that when the manager hired her sister in the bakery, all I had put in the extra mile for, and even neglected my own family for, had gone out the window! Everything I invested in the workplace suddenly meant nothing. It hurt. Reality check : it really isn't what you know, it's who you know that will get you ahead.
