Health benefits

Full-time Lyft employees get a variety of health and wellness benefits. Eligible employees and their dependents receive comprehensive medical coverage. Plus dental insurance, vision insurance, and life insurance.

Where possible, the company covers One Medical membership fees. And they give their U.S. team members free access to mental health support services.

Lyft drivers are contractors, so they won't get the same benefits as hourly employees. But there are new laws in California to protect ridesharing drivers in the gig economy.

Each quarter, drivers who work between 15–25 hours a week get 50% of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) contribution every month. If they work more than 25 hours per week, they'll get 100% of the ACA contribution. Rides need to start in California to get this benefit.

Financial benefits

Lyft drivers make money based on the time and distance of each trip. You can choose your own hours and make bonuses when services are in high demand.

You’ll get paid weekly, and you can cash out in an instant using Express Pay. Customers can leave tips for good service, and 100% of tips go to the driver. The company doesn’t take a cut of this part of the pay.

For full-time employees, Lyft offers competitive salaries. For example, customer service specialists make an average of $41,108 per year, and community relations specialists make $77,876 per year.

Recruiters make an average of $75,177 per year. Salary operations managers make $79,453 a year, and marketing managers make $86,159 a year.

Employees get time off for 12 holidays each year. Plus, if you’re on a salary, you can get unlimited paid time off (PTO). Hourly employees may be eligible for up to 15 days of PTO each year.

You can save for your retirement by contributing pre-tax dollars to the 401(k) plan. And, there’s an option to invest in the Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).

Lyft offers financial training programs to help employees set budgets and prepare for the future.

Education benefits

Before you can be a Lyft driver, you'll need to complete mandatory online driver safety training. The company gives all drivers access to the 20-minute course, which includes a series of six videos.

The short course teaches drivers how to report safety incidents. And it explains the types of unacceptable behaviors, such as sexual misconduct. Drivers learn how to defuse potentially volatile situations to ensure a respectful and safe ride.

If you work in one of Lyft's offices, there will be opportunities for ongoing training and promotions. The company often hires interns, graduates, and apprentices to help them kick start their careers.

Lyft prides itself on having a learning environment and supporting workers to be their best. Eligible employees have access to a Udemy subscription with access to online courses.

Parenting benefits

Lyft drivers can choose their own hours, so they have the flexibility to work around their family commitments. But as independent contractors, drivers don’t have access to paid parental leave.

However, full-time employees have access to paid parental leave. Biological parents, adoptive parents, and foster parents are all eligible for this plan.

Full-time employees can expect up to 18 weeks of paid parental leave.

Unique benefits

Lyft gives bonuses to reliable, hard-working, safe drivers. You can earn points during busy periods and drive your way toward the silver, gold, or platinum tier.

Some of the rewards you can earn include discounts on roadside assistance and maintenance and repairs. And gold and platinum members will get access to advanced features on the app.

Full-time employees may receive pre-tax commuter benefits. They may also access the Lyft Pink program, which gives riders 15% off and free Lyft rental upgrades.

The program also includes a free Grubhub+ or Seamless+ membership.

What are the minimum requirements for Lyft benefits?

To be a Lyft driver, you’ll need to be at least 21 years old. To be eligible for driver benefits and bonuses, you’ll need to be a reliable driver and prepared to work during peak periods. Those located in California will have access to additional benefits.

Office employees will need to work full-time to receive full benefits, including healthcare and paid time off.

Part-time employees work less than 30 hours a week and may be eligible for some benefits.

How much do Lyft drivers make?

Lyft drivers get paid per job. You’ll get paid a minimum amount per ride depending on your location, plus any tips. As an example, drivers in California can make up to $37 per hour. In Los Angeles, drivers are making up to $39 per hour.

Houston drivers make less, with an average income of $23 per hour. In Indianapolis, drivers are making $30 per hour, and in Chicago, the average is $40 per hour.

In Boston, the average is $41 per hour, and in Kansas City, drivers are making $30 per hour.
