Online tools you need to skill up and land a job
Jump to section

As each week passes, many of us are wondering when it’ll be safe to work again. It may be a good idea to use this time to add to your existing skill set, learn a new technological skill, or enhance your communication abilities.

You don’t need a degree in these areas in order to acquire the needed skills and competencies that future employers will see as valuable. Take advantage of many free and low-cost tutorials, full courses, and even certificate programs available to you online.

Here are a few of the most popular websites and online platforms to get started:

YouTube

Want to learn a quick technical skill, a new language, how to edit a video on your iPhone? Look no further than YouTube. You can learn things like

All from free YouTube videos! The trick to YouTube is finding an instructional style that works for you, but once you find a channel with videos that you find effective, you can become a subscriber to that channel and learn away.

edX

edX is a portal through which you can access over 2,500 free courses, all from the nation’s leading institutions. You can take classes from schools like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, and others, who provide individual courses like Introduction to Computer Science, Introduction to Project Management, Academic and Business Writing and more without paying a dime. Another great feature of edX is that you have the option of taking multiple courses in a subject area in order to earn a certificate (in topics like Digital Marketing, Human Resources, and Business Communications) that you can share with future employers when applying for jobs.

Another similar site with free courses as well as certificate options is Coursera.

Skillshare

Skillshare is another online learning community that offers more than 24,000 classes in a wide variety of areas: business development (also known as ‘sales’), how to start your own business, web development, graphic design, visual art, writing and communication, and more. Right now Skillshare is offering two free months of its premium membership, which makes this a good time to check it out.

Lynda.com

Lynda.com is another website that offers online learning opportunities in an assortment of areas through well-organized, accessible tutorials and courses designed to get you up-to-speed with cutting edge skills and technologies.

Other low and no-cost online sources

You can learn how to build or update websites using popular web development software. Have a great idea for a mobile app? Well, you can learn how to develop them yourself through step-by-step tutorial lessons. Want to know how to work with databases and online spreadsheet software? Lynda.com can show you how and no previous experience is necessary!

There are also classes on a wide assortment of in-demand business skills like project management and personnel management. You can also enhance skills in productivity software tools like Microsoft Office or Google Suite when it comes to word processing, slideshow presentations, and spreadsheets. Right now, the site is offering a free month trial, making this a good time to see what skills can help you land your next job.

Also, don’t forget about your local public library! With a library card, you can access your community library’s online resources, which include free eBooks, audiobooks, music, streaming videos, and more through services like Overdrive, Hoopla, and others. Happy surfing and let us know in the comments if you learn anything new!

In the realm of college studies, these online tools are a goldmine! Whether it's mastering coding for that tech elective, improving communication skills crucial for presentations, or even acing those Excel spreadsheets for business courses – YouTube, edX, Skillshare, and Lynda.com have got our backs. The abundance of free and low-cost courses from top institutions is a game-changer for students wanting to skill up. As college students it is hard to manage all tasks, so I check reviews at https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/edubirdie.com and think that this is an excellent opportunity to improve my performance. It can broaden our skill sets without breaking the bank. From project management to digital marketing, these platforms offer a treasure trove of knowledge that can make us stand out to future employers. Plus, who can resist free trials and two months of premium membership on Skillshare and Lynda.com? Count me in!

For effective SEO promotion, you must clearly understand your target audience and direct all efforts to attract it. You should be aware of all the latest trends and use this in your content. Try to always use trending and popular keywords in your headlines, and track the rank of your keywords using tools like position tracking by SE Rankings https://seranking.com/position-tracking.html or similar. Always keep an eye on your competitors, sometimes with their help you can tweak your strategies.
