What is the minimum age policy at McDonald’s®?
To ensure McDonald’s® restaurants provide a work environment that supports the academic commitments of young people, and to ensure the safety of our employees, we apply a minimum age policy of 14 years except where more stringent legislative restrictions apply.
Important
If you are invited to an interview and are less than 16 years old, you will need a parent or guardian’s consent, (Work Permit or Age Certificate). Check the Department of Labor’s Minor Work Permit and Age Certificate website for more details on your state minor age requirements and application download information.
What type of shifts are available?
McDonald’s® restaurants operate in a range of day-parts. These include:
- Morning shifts (which can commence as early as 4am)
- Daytime shifts (which cover our mid-morning, lunch and afternoon periods)
- Evening shifts (which cover dinner and late evening times)
- Overnight shifts (which help us serve our customers after 11pm through to mid-morning)
Experienced crew may assist with working evening and overnight shifts. However, at all times, McDonald's will comply with all Child Employment Legislation. In addition, McDonald's recommends that school students are not expected to work beyond 11pm on a school night.

Can I apply to more than one restaurant?
Yes, you can apply to up to 10 restaurants per application. However, hiring managers recommend that you think carefully where you wish to work before applying.
Can I save my application form half way through and complete at a later time?
Yes you are able to save and return at a later date if you wish. Applications that have not been submitted will be deleted 7 days after they were created.
How long will it take for someone to contact me?
McDonalds hiring managers aim to contact you as quickly as possible, which is usually within 7 days of submitting your online application. You will be contacted via phone or your personal email.
How long does the recruitment process take?
The hiring timeline is different for each restaurant depending on their individual sense of urgency for additional resources. 2 weeks is the typical recruitment process once you are selected as a qualified candidate for employment.
