How to apply for a job at Walmart
Jump to section

Walmart offers many different opportunities to work for the world's largest retailer. We've broken down what's required to apply for a job at Walmart and tips on how to handle your interview while applying at Walmart.

Age Requirement for Working at Walmart

If an applicant is a minor and under 18, the applicant will be required to submit a birth certificate or work certificate as required by state or federal law.

Your Availability

List the date you can start if hired. Also provide your availability - add the earliest time/latest time you’re available to work, as well as the days of the week.

Employment History

List your entire employment history, beginning with your current employer. For any unemployed or self-employed periods, provide dates and locations. If you’re currently employed, you’ll be asked if they can contact your current employer.

Employee history information needed:

  • Company Name — include address, city, states, zip, and phone

  • Your job - Include title as well the name of your your supervisor and the dates you were employee.

  • If you’ve left the position, you’ll need to list the reason for leaving

    References

List two people (not relatives) you have worked with who we may contact. Include their name, email, and phone number.

Also required

  • Background checks are conducted for all potential Walmart employees, including those applying for part-time positions. They look at county criminal records, motor vehicle records, and possible civil court records.

  • Drug tests are given if you apply for a management position or for a position on the safety asset team.

Assessment Tests The Walmart Assessment Test is an examination used to evaluate prospective candidates for employment at Walmart. The test measures their knack for working under supervisors and alongside co-workers, as well as their ability to understand and handle situations relating to customers. Walmart also conducts an assessment test for its managerial positions, two of the most important being the Walmart Tactical Leadership Assessment test (TLA) and the Walmart Supervisor Leadership Assessment test (SLA).

General insight for applying to Walmart

  • Most applicants heard from Walmart within two weeks of applying.

  • Interviews are fairly quick. (During COVID-19 they’ve been over the phone.) Offers are usually made within a few days if not following the interview.

  • Orientations are sometimes shorter than usual depending on how quickly they need employees to start working (due to COVID-19)
